If your shift lever has been feeling clunky or hard to change gears, or even has suddenly lost the ability to change drive gears at all, do not jump straight to thinking you need a new transmission! Or even a new shift cable- there is a way to just replace the shifter cable bushing that holds connects the shift cable to the transmission and it has been known to fail.

This video will tell you how to fix that as well as what kits are available for you and your 2013-2016 Ford Escape.

Robin Rolin says:

There is a new recall on this (22S25) affecting some Escapes from 2013 to 2015, proactively I will replace the bushing on my 15’ Escape, better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the info!

That is so awesome how it’s such a simple fix for something that seems scary.

Nice! Had to change mine last year. The dealership wanted to charge me $200+, and hold my vehicle for a few weeks. The part was around $10 at the dealership, and took me about 30 minutes to fix in their parking lot in front of their garage. LOL
Too late for me, but just in time for others!

Leon Fisher says:

Another great tip. Now… what's that on the passenger seat?
