DIY Tensioner Pulley Replacement 4.2L Ford F-150 (Screeching Bearings & Squealing Serpentine Belt)

HOW TO DIY Replacement of the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 etc Ford f-150 4.2L V6 Tensioner Pulley that makes a loud screeching, squealing, squeaking sound. I approached this automotive repair as a diy’er who might have limited tools or a diy’er who wanted to make the repair with minimal disassembly .
many videos suggest taking apart your covers, fan guard, air assembly, fan & serpentine belt to access this tension pulley but that’s not necessary . In this video we remove the Alternator and access the tensioner in no time
Tools used Gearwrench 24″ Long 1/2″ drive breaker bar, Stanley 1/2″ drive 12 point 15mm , 13mm sockets, Gearwrench 1/2″ to 3/8″ reducer & 13mm deep 6 point socket , @Lisle Corporation 3/8″ drive T50 Torx socket , @michaelpro 3/8″ drive locking indexing ratchet, @Harbor Freight Tools 1/2″ drive Pittsburgh Pro Flex head ratchet, Craftsman long picks/Hooks, wire brush, 8mm & 10mm sockets for the battery and the parts used were @Dayco Official tensioner pulley & serpentine belt from Car Quest

Hopefully this video helps you out .

Jim O says:

What if I just want to replace the pulley only? Is that center bolt a reverse thread; and, is there any con to just replacing the pulley only? Great vids. Thanks Again, You really helped me out.

THANK YOU !!!! Excellent vid.

J1SMOKES says:

I changed this in a 2000 f150 4.2 because of a rattling sound in drive at idle. Didn't get rid of the rattling but its for sure coming from the tensioner. Its out of warranty so I'm going to try again with the one you suggested.

Kman says:

Good video thanks. Will be doing the pulley below the tensioner pulley, and more directly under the alternator soon as it has seized up and broken the serpentine belt. Hoping that pulley also has the torx socket , fingers crossed..
