ROBERT CLINTON TUCKER says:

Mike can you please do such repairs on ford explorer 1998 models so we can understand better. Thanks

Keeping the transmission fluid changed at it’s recommended intervals, will greatly improve your transmission life. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Ryan Richards says:

That fluid was nasty!

1aauto says:

If you have a service manual for the vehicle, it should be in there. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Justin Jones says:

I’m not sure if you said this in the video but how much transmission fluid does it take?

1aauto says:

You may want to start by checking the transmission fluid level to see if it’s up to it’s correct level. If it is, you could try to replace that gasket and also flush the transmission and add a new filter in to see if that helps resolve the issue. Sometimes a small piece of debris or a clogged tranny filter can hang up the valve body or a governor. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I have a Ford Explorer 00′ XL, It slips after second gear, and WONT go into overdrive. Its a 5r55e, its a 5 speed. When going 60 the RPM is about 3000, somewhere, and OD light blinks, is it my value gasket thats blown????/ please help

1aauto says:

If you haven’t already, check the fluid level first and then you could try to flush the transmission out and change the transmission filter. Sometimes all it takes is a small piece of debris floating around in the fluid to hang up the transmission valve body of a governor. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I have a 99 ford explore automatic, when i put it in drive it takes a few seconds to inter drive , but if i first shift into 2 then straight into drive it takes off good never slips always drives good four wheel drives work good . Just have to go to 2 then back to drive every time could you help?. thanks

If you haven’t’ you could try to have the transmission fluid flushed and put a new transmission filter in too. Sometimes a clogged filter or a piece of debris floating around in the fluid will hang up a governor or the valve body. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Hi I have a 93 ford ranger 4.0 automatic and it seems the transmission is going out. Changing from park to drive seems “tight” and when I put it in reverse , theres like this loud jam.. also my rpm wont change gear unless I go about 40 mph then the gears change whats wrong? I checked my distributor, cleaned my iac valve.. HELP!!!

thechampion61ify says:

I have a 98 ford explorer sport and it takes a minute to shift from park to drive, it almost refuses to shift. It never wants to shift from park to drive unless I rev the engine and switch to park and back to drive. I have been told dont change the transmission fluid because it will ruin transmission. Idk what to do. It is automatic with 248, 000 miles

John Hubbard says:

My 04 V6 4L (122K) Explorer sometimes “slips” on the highway at 65-70 mph. Over the last 18 mos its gone from every now & then – to every trip & just started happening at slower speeds – 40 mph +/-. When it slips I flutter the gas & it generally stops. When I drive w/ OD off - no probs. I flushed the trany fluid at 60K but nvr replacd filter. Does 04 have same probs as the late 90’s model in ur video? I also hear solenoid wiring can be cleaned/replaced & fix this problem – any thoughts? thx

1aauto says:

The only thing you can do now is either replace or rebuild the transmission.

Saddegh Sefau says:

I have a 2002 Explorer XLT 6 cylinder 4×4 .when The overdrive light is flashing ,i’m flush the old fluid out of the transmission, and i put a new transmission filter in it. after that the transmission shifts hard and i hear the sound in the transmission, after two days ,i run the car and when i change the gear speed car not response. now the car don’t moves

1aauto says:

If you haven’t changed the transmission fluid or filter in a long time you may want to do this. It wouldn’t hurt to do a fill fluid change in the transmission along with a new tranny filter. If the filter has become clogged, or if there’s debris floating around in the transmission fluid, it can hang up the valve body or a governor in the transmission. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Lynette Burg says:

I have a 2002 ford explorer. It doesn’t have a dipstick. It reves up to aroud 4 grand when it shifts from 1st to 2nd and I have to let off the gas for it to shift. Would this process the same for this year of vehicle as the older models?

usmcsgt9705 says:

I have a 2002 Explorer XLT 6 cylinder 4×4 and the transmission has two loud clunks and has two hard shifts when going into reverse. Is this something that might need trans fluid or a new transmission? The transmission is a sealed trans.

1aauto says:

This will work on both the Explorer and the mountaineer as long as it has the same transmission.

andrewm645 says:

I have a 99 mountaineer with a 5.0 and it is doing exactly what you said when let off the gas it will finally go into gear. Will this application work with the mountaineer as well?

1aauto says:

The issue is going to be with the transmission clutch and not the gasket. You will want to have someone adjust them first and then go from there.

bladymil delgado says:

I have 96 explorer with a 4.0 and it shifts normal from 1st to 2nd but from 2nd to 3rd it revs up for a little then shifts into 3rd or 4rt gear

1aauto says:

The issue is either going to be with the clutch pack or possibly the solenoid or the fluid. You will want to bring it into someone that can check the pressure of the solenoids.

TIM STEWART says:

I have a 1999 F150 the transmission that shifts hard in and out of overdrive. In other words if I’m going say 60 MPH and I let off gas it down shift fine but when I re apply the gas it shifts hard you can fill it in the tuck to the point it almost feels like a lot of play in rear end but that’s not the problem. Any ideas what this could be?

1aauto says:

You could try to flush all of the old fluid out of the transmission, and put a new transmission filter in it. Sometimes a piece of debris floating around in the fluid will hang up a valve-body or a governor in the transmission. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
