David Sullivan says:

Good video Shawn. Bolt head sizes especially useful to avoid the hassle of
trying several… Well done.

Aaron Clinton says:

Alxen you’re stupid the fuel pump is in the gas tank that’s the FILTER
STUPID

James Johnson says:

dude, you can use safety glasses and gloves to protect yourself.

ShawnCFarm says:

@lustrded Not sure. I take it it was not doing that before. You might try
cleaning the throttle body out. It should be part of every tune up.

njintau says:

Man that fuel filter location is retarded! Why can’t it be in the engine
bay like my other cars!

Jimmy Stinnette says:

thanks! this vid helped alot….mine’s a 2003 but exactly the same

captjjohnson says:

@104stefan I’m pretty sure it doesn’t matter what vehicle or generation it
is the fuel filter always goes bad on all vehicles over time. It depends on
how crappy the fuel is that you put into it.

Thomas Whitmore says:

Just did my filter on my 2000 ford focus. With floor jacks and stands,
makes the job so easy. Ford did it right using the quick release hoses. I
paid 13.00 bucks for the Purolator filter, wonder how much it would have
cost me if I took it to a shop??

ShawnCFarm says:

@ryanincontrol lots more to come

Jimmy Stinnette says:

thanks for telling everyone to stay away from lines when disconnecting, i
changed a fuel filter on a windstar van and it poured into my ear…that
was one of the most painful things i’ve experienced….so like you said,
definitely keep back from those lines or remove fuse!

EdiesMama says:

Hey! Thanks for your post on this! I followed your instructions to change
mine on my ’02 Focus and, I have to say, it’s so easy – a girl can do it!
(I’m a girl.) 😀 Thanks again!

firebert814 says:

the stealership wants $69.95 to do this. I can get a nice Wix filter for 8
bucks and do this on my driveway thanks to your vid.

MrMrsregor says:

i THINK you can releave pressure by removing the fuel line from the fuel
rail (on the other end)

skeeter Hoss says:

The retaining clips are just a ball to push out if they slip lol

Branislav Stratrov says:

focus from 2009 doesnt have fuel filter, only the one on the fuel pump. and
that is not a filter that is only a plastic mash :D:D

Jim Strother says:

Thanks! Very helpful.

aodhanof90 says:

good video! I’m about to do one on a Ford Contour and I wasn’t sure how to
get those quick clips off. Btw, did you pull the fuel relay of fuze before
swapping the filter?

ShawnCFarm says:

@gonedeep43 They would have got you for 20 to 30 for the filter and 1/2 or
so to change it

michael amoia says:

@pnaznp well mine has 160 exactly and theres a leak in power steering in
the steering rack and she needs fuel filter, maybe new coil pack, thats
bout it. engine is perfect

Daminion1000 says:

Thank for the vid. I just took the filter out of a 2003 Focus w/ 170,000
miles that just started stalling and having trouble going over 40mph and
the fuel looks like black coffee. I was shocked that I was still getting
around 29 mpg! I also blew through the filter and found a lot of air flow
restriction when empty. It’s the same set up as yours. The white line
clamps were easy to remove simultaneously with a pair of needle nose
pliers, A 5/16 socket and 9/32 for pump bracket. $10.99 filter

deadblock3 says:

if i change the fuel filter, will the fuel running out?

Carl Torjusen says:

what a stupid location for filter. most in past were in the engine
compartment which would take 10min off and on instead of aggravation of
jacking rear up and spending hours on end . absolute stupidity

backwoods3214 says:

as long as don’t used to much lucus it helps.

demoguy40 says:

gas is good for ya bud,my wife likes me smelly after wrenching all day.Ans
old gas is good weed killer

ShawnCFarm says:

Well this is true you could pull the fuse out, and should. I just don’t
bother because its faster not to

ShawnCFarm says:

@lustrded It sounds like you might have some other problems as well. If you
hear a hissing sound when you push your foot to the floor you might have a
plug cat .

ShawnCFarm says:

@104stefan They should be change every 30,000 or so. I know the newer spark
plugs will go for 120,000 to 130,000 km before you change them but alot of
people forget the fuel filter

tyme302 says:

on the ford focus 2001 SE DOHC i did i found the tie down strap on the fuel
filter was 8mm

undone780 says:

Is it pretty much the same steps to change the fuel filter on a 2007 ford
focus?

Katlind Paquette says:

They say you should change it every 2 or 3 years . Or every hundred
thousand km’s .. Changing your fuel filter will put less stress on tiny
fuel pump . I just bought a focus and I’ll be doing my filter next week. I
don’t mind wasting a $1.50 of gasoline .

Bill Chandos says:

Thanks for the video, it was helpful to see how the clips worked, as that
was the most difficult part of the job. The back clip I ended up removing
with my fingers, because I couldn’t get a screwdriver at the right angle.
Two things: 1) The measurements on those screws are likely 8mm and 7mm, 2)
most people recommend pulling the fuel pump fuse and cranking the motor
several times so as to avoid the fuel splatter.

ShawnCFarm says:

Might be. You might have put it on backwards as well

ShawnCFarm says:

@EdiesMama No problem. Thats why I’m here

sssss says:

I changed the fuel filter of my 2007 Ford Focus, and after a week I am
hearing a noise in the back after twisting the key but not starting the
engine. Do you think it could be associated with the fuel filter change?

mtcowboysfan says:

Thanks. Was unsure about hose clip contraptions until I watched your vid.
Thanks for taking time to actually record it.

ShawnCFarm says:

@CDNBadass We put lucas in cars at work. Its better then putting nothing in
at all.
