There was no oil in it lol!!!!
Tech Video Friday! Found a great video of a backyard mechanic explaining
how to disassemble an 8.8″ rear differential on a 1998 Ford Ranger. Enjoy!
Nice video. My pinion gear did not come out nearly as neatly. But then
again, I live in New England.
my differential gears dont want to come out i took out the 2 holders then
the pinion yolk and i try to pull it out could it be different on a 96 ford
ranger 2wd
great video! very helpful! thank you!
awww… you didn’t show the part on how to take the axles out. I’m planning
on changing the axle bearings and seals only. Is there any way that you can
further describe how to remove the cross pin and bolt? Is this easy to do
on the driveway or would it be faster on a lift?
Kodak Zi8 – amazing little camera!
awesome vid brotha, I got a bad diff whine from wheeling my ranger today,
and Im gonna tear her apart 🙂
100% preventable. That gear oil did not look good. I had that same truck
and its a hassle to change the diff oil with no drain plug.
nice video. I am in process of doing my rear end right now. this is my
first rebuild. watched many many videos on you tube, read many articles,
and even ordered a book from amazon on how to rebuild the 8.8″ ford
differential. anyway just wanted to say the gear oil that came from your
differential looked like tar instead of gear oil. not picking on you by any
means. but this was a good video to see how to remove the old bearing cups.
will be posting a few of my own as I work on mine.
Afetr I removed my driveshaft I found no fore/aft, up/down, or side/side
movement in my pinion shaft. I deduced that the bearings were probably in
good condition. I found no chipped gear teeth on my ring and pinion either.
My diff gears were shiny and had a lot of play between them. After I
replaced the diff gears about 70% of my rotational play went away.
9 people who disliked this arent mechanically inclined and they hate it
Great video. What was the symptom before you decided to check it out?
Have a look at my other video where I am road testing and diagnosing the
problem.
I had a 98 ford ranger 4×4. Bought it new back in the day. Worst truck I
ever owned! Nothing but problems from day 1. In fact now that I think about
it all my Ford products were junk.
wow, i have no idea on this one
Brilliant Video!! Helped me more than you know!
hmm… im in the process of cutting the diff open to relieve pressure and
hopefully be able to take it out
i took apart a 03 explorer diff to use the 3.55’s in my mustang and i cant
get the pinion out, any reasons why you think that would be
What were the symptoms on the truck before you did that job? was it
Vibration at high speeds?? My 2001 ford ranger vibrates from the rear end
at high speeds and I can not figure out what is wrong, I had the tires
balanced but no, I think it feels like loose drive shaft or something in
the differential. any advice??
question, would replacing the rear bearing in my 99 Durango solve this
issue? i am hearing a loud whine sound(like a turbo spooling up) when i
reach the speed of 30mph and above. this began after pulling a loaded
u-haul trailer a month ago.
Best differential info video on youtube. You sir are awesome!
Good video. I have a loud whining noise on my Toyota 4Runner, I have no
experience with rear differentials but im going try and fix it myself
FINALLY!!! a video on youtube where the guy knows what he is doing. You
explained the exquisitely ….all is understood. oh and the same applies
for the 01 mustang .Thanx good job.
fantastic video, what kind of camera were you using?
Good video man!
