One more idea you could have used if you already haven’t done something
else. You could have simply tapped into the factory bed light and ran your
wires back to the bed using the factory bed light switch in the dash to
control the bed lights.

ML L says:

You should always switch the powered side of a circuit, not the
grounded/neutral side. If one of the wires were to break off and touch the
frame or bed it will short out even though you have the circuit “switched”.

Mack McCurry says:

If you look on the cap for the plug it tells you witch wire is what I have
a F-350 with the same plug..

Jeffrey McCall says:

Good vid, one thing I recommend from doing a of motorcycle wiring is posi
taps. Waterproof and much easier to deal with.

Matt Zechman says:

Nice video. I like the trick you did with adding the solder to the wires
after they are wrapped; Very useful when I don’t have 2 hands to use.
Thanks!

Mack McCurry says:

Use a plain pair of pliers on the scotch clips to shut them works better.

Mack McCurry says:

If you your ford has upfiter switches use them?

TheBCSledder says:

Is it possible to wire it into the existing cargo light so that the lights
come on when the stock cargo switch is on? Or is the amp draw too high for
that?

Mack McCurry says:

You did not have that clip set all the way when you shut it up.

SONofZEUS says:

I know you have heard this before, those wire taps are junk. I’m a mechanic
and when I see that on a car it gets removed asap. I call them gators cause
they will ruin your day. It takes many hours to rewire all the lights on a
semi because some guy was in a hurry! Still good job for DIY buddy. Carry
on

Mack McCurry says:

Put a switch on your tail gate so when you open it the lights come on.

Adesico87 says:

i just ordered 16ft of waterproof LED 3m strip for under $10 off amazon.
FYI

Mack McCurry says:

ALLWAYS SWITCH HOT WIRE.

Mack McCurry says:

Great Job!!!

Good work…awesome video

Blaine Zary says:

I was looking at the LED strip video. I’m quite familiar with the products
you use but was wondering how you adhered the strips inside the box. So
they stay and won’t separate and fall down

Jordan Hooper says:

Very nice work, sir! I have a hard fiberglass cover on mine and have been
wanting more light. This is perfect! I will share how mine turns out as
soon as I get it done. Thanks!

codemanrose says:

I just wired it to the courtesy light switch. That way when you want to
turn on the bed lights just hit the courtesy light. I mean most people use
them anyways if they have toppers on their truck to see inside. You are
basically doing the same just you have no topper and you want the whole bed
lit even more. Like the BedRug! Got one as well and love it!

Tom Z says:

I’m not sure about your technique you show at the end of the video. To get
a proper solder joint you need to heat the wires up, not just the solder.
When you heat the wires up it will draw the solder to them and bond to the
metal wire.

Mack McCurry says:

Heat Gun.

STREETRACEN4U says:

Nice.

Joe Tavarez says:

I installed these in my car’s trunk. Now I can see the contents of my
trunk.

FullThrottle440 says:

that is a great idea

I love the mod! Like you, I am very passionate about cars, so I started a
channel for maintaining & modifying cars. Not as good as some others but
slowly working at it, lol! Please check it out! SUBSCRIBE if you’d like!
(By the way, I will be holding a contest for prizes when I reach a certain
number of SUBS!)

Charles Macleod says:

you shouldn’t cut trailer harness , never use wire tap they are garbage run
your own line from the cab with a fuse in line or tap in to box light and
solider the wires , this guy not sure what he is doing what a joke !!!!

ugutierrez55 says:

What is the point of having a truck if ur gonna go and pretty up the bed?
That’s a sissy boys truck. Leave the trucks for those who actually need
them.

Joe Tavarez says:

I installed this a year ago in my trunk. The small weak lights that come in
trunks are terrible..

h8ncars says:

Flux and solder your wires first. Than solder heat them together when
finished. Never twist than solder. Too excessive!

Charles Lynn says:

Seriously nice.
