Ran into a few issues restoring the Ferrari 308GTB. What's the latest updates from the CAR WIZARD?

Restoring any car can be frustrating, especially when that car is a vintage Ferrari. The CAR WIZARD 🧙‍♂️ and his crew have made progress, but have also run into a few new issues.

Verte-Arbusto's Schumann-Resonance-Harmonics says:

Dual used to make great turntables.I owned the CS515, with an Ortophan tonearm, and stylus.
They made cassette players for home.
They're a German company, who is now, obviously making car audio electronics.
Wise choice.

O. Bartlett says:

Love Car Wizard videos in general but this Ferrari 308 series in particular. It brings back memories (and sometimes nightmares) of our full ground up rebuild of a 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS that we raced way back when. Ours had been abused to the max, blown engine, trans was shot and it had caught fire meaning it was like totally thrashed (like totally) ruining a bunch of stuff but especially the wiring harness. Took the engine to a racing machine shop that did the work on my dad's Funny Cars, Godfather's Pro Stock Camaro, some Formula V and Super V cars, and other exotic builds. Working on the engine we quickly found the block was ruined, a head was badly cracked ( yes folks and wait there was more).
The man having us do the car managed to find a much newer 308 Quattro-Valve that had been ripped completely into 2 pieces. He bought it as a donor car mainly for the engine, transmission, interior parts that were still intact but also the tore up wiring harness. I could still use the harness as a basic template to re-engineer, improve and build a new one (which became a priority as it is a slow and long process). I did streamline the sub-harness to the headlights and switched to a single relay solving the buckets opening in unison problem. I also used the Gordan Murray approach of reducing weight on the harness and car all over as much possible. I literally measured grams (or ounces) to keep all weight as low as possible.
Later we added quad turbos with water cooled intercoolers and some other modifications to power it up quite a bit. This was the car I used to get my SCCA Winter Rally Challenge drivers training in. Also raced 2 different Porsche 928's, a 944, a 911 Carrera, MGB's and a few others.

Dear Car Wizard, If you think Ferrari parts are expensive don't buy a McLaren F1. I bought a 1993 McLaren and was expecting to pay Ferrari or Lamborghini prices for parts or service. The owner even told me that it was in need of various major service based on time and miles though he only had it one year but often drove it daily. Boy was I in for a shock. My first call to McLaren was a rude awakening to what I had gotten myself into (and my wife was already furious with me for buying a $950,000 car plus $50,000 as a retainer until I could liquidate some stock to pay for it). I inquired about the service prices, parts, and having the F1 refinished British Racing Green and thought I was going to cry (and because my wife probably will kill me). Needless to say we did the work ourselves, our engineers (myself included) and machinists (myself included) built many of the parts, and did the repaint as well.
All of us look forward to seeing the rest of your 308 build and others as well. Take care, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !

I know height is important to you, but you'll probably regret fixing it in place at some point, so maybe look to see if there's a low profile solution?

as for the headlights, why not limit the higher side? or just replace it with a new stepper motor custom setup?

anyway, that's my 2 bobs worth 😛 it's your car, do what you will, I just want to see you driving it around and enjoying it!

Eric Fleetwood says:

Does Mrs. Wizard know that you plan on mounting the driver's seat so it fits you, nor her? Good luck.

Erik Runas says:

Sounds like the Tom Hanks movie The Money Pit…2 weeks.

$800.00 PER SEAT WITHOUT RAILS?????? Console needs cup holders.

Merry Christmas Mr. & Mrs. Car Wizard plus crew.

Jimmy, Making it work says:

Hmmmm….won't your wife be surprised when she learns the seats won't adjust for her to drive it.

Ultimate Trash Gamer says:

Heart Mrs Wizard.

MarksoPogi22 forsure says:

Hi car wizard I know it’s a little off topic… but would you buy a 2007 Pontiac vibe with 90000 miles. What do you look for before buying a used car?

dragonsbreath tea says:

to adjust the headlights there are two adjustment points around the bulb also you might need to remove the reflectopr housing.
these are on page 106and 107 in the manual i also founf it available for free.

lu tomson says:

These are the same reasons I got rid of my old 308 no headroom was the number 1 problem I'm taller then he is terrible design by short Italians

Jordel says:

the cringy intros are the best… you can tell him and his wife love each other very much

Scott Campbell says:

How come people do not want to restore their 40 year old Toyota’s. Just let them die? I have owned exotics with their parts problem. Porsche is the closest to exotics without the headaches. I own a Tesla Model X, Model 3, and a Porsche Panamera 4s(Taycan on order). Once you go EV, no going back. Little or no maintenance is so nice plus all the power and charge at home on solar panels. I save $400/month on gas and electricity with solar panels. No more oil filters in land fills

Scott Campbell says:

Ferrari’s are built for small Italian’s. If you over 6 feet forget it.

Creighton Freeman says:

Doesn't the Ferrari factory service manual show how to adjust the headlight beams? Or doesn't Ferrari have a factory service manual? If so, all I can say is you should have bought a Fiero! lol

GARY PRIEBE says:

Now we know why each season of Magnum PI required a brand new 308GT

UN Government says:

Video suggestion: buy this not that Subaru.

matthew King says:

Poor wizard

Gene Murphy says:

Does that have the computer with the
308Giga TB hard drive?

jorgipogi says:

That heads-up display does not look properly put together.

BikingNSMark75 says:

Good stuff Wizard

D C says:

Great video

Brian Wood says:

It is really coming out nice.. I'm 6'6" so I could never even fit in the 308 so I understand the fixed in place seats in a Ferrari. are you going to dye the carpet black or tan to make it look as good as the rest of the car?
