yai it sucked bad. i had replaced the outers but just curbed it and bent the inner. cant believe how much the boots cost. i did a self align but ive got a grinding sound when turning on the same side as the damage.

that sucks,what I did was replace the inner and outer while I am in there.use some heat on that jam nut if your relacing the outer tie rod.heat works wonders

ill give them both a try. heck the outter tie rod nut was so tight, i had to place the wrench on top and push with my foot.

use a big ass wrench,used it on my Silverado you should have enough room to get to it.otherwise rent a inner tie rod tool from autozone

The rack & pinion isn’t a rotating part. Hose clamp should be fine.

I would refrain from using hose clamps on any rotating part of the drive train, axles, drive shafts etc. As it rotates it will throw an imbalance. Used to use hose clamps for balancing old drive shafts, great way to fix a wobbly, vibrating shaft if put in the right spot. Zip ties are light enough they won’t change balance.

This video helped alot. I used hose clamps on the inside end of the boot. loosening the jamb nut before you take off the outter tie rod end is alot easier. thank you..

Thanks! I thought I was going to have to remove the whole steering rack. Hey, I wanted to ask… on the inside of the boot, you said to use a zip tie…. would a hose clamp work?

The tool can be expensive to buy but many auto parts stores have a tool loaner program so you may not need to buy it at all.
