Replace Outer Tie Rod – Dodge Ram

Replace Outer Tie Rod – Dodge Ram

A short video on how to diagnose and replace an outer tie rod end on a 2008 Ram 1500. I can’t stress enough about having the toe-in reset when you are finished. IT IS IMPORTANT! A tape measure will only get you close enough to drive to and alignment shop.

Richard Glancy says:

ok what if that first but he loosened will not break free then what?

Keith Hastings says:

If you happen to miss the hole for the cotter pin after tightening, continue until it lines up again. Don't ever back it off to line it up. It could wallow out the hole in the spindle causing noise, looseness, or play in the steering. In some cases the tie rod could break and then really bad thing happens…

Dakota Farrulla says:

Why did you put the vise grips on? I am about to change the outer tie rod ends on my 2003 Ram 1500.

Ronald Cach says:

HI Eric, I have a 2006 ford ranger with bad outer tie rod ends. Would it be a good idea to change both inner tie rods at the same time. THANKS FRIEND

Brian Gauthier says:

I use a compass, you know the ones used for drawing circles.spread it out to the jam nut, stick the pointy end in the grease fitting and lock it.use it to measure the new one.Somewhat accurate….

Mopar Nut says:

FYI for the DIY'ers out there- when changing all your own chassis and steering parts, tighten all your own nuts and bolts! Don't assume the guy at the alignment shop is going to check all of your work. We've had guys rebuild the entire front end of their cars (ball joints, tie rods, pitman and idler arms) and just run the castle nuts on finger tight and shove in a cotter pin! They said they assumed we needed it all loose to adjust the alignment. LOL

Hot80s says:

another good demo thanks.Surprised you didn't do those nasty front discs.
