How To: 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Power Steering Gearbox Replacement

Replacing the power steering gearbox on my 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 4×4. First gearbox failed due to being rebuilt and having a crack in the case where the piston bore is.

Second failure was a Cardone rebuild from O’Reilly Auto Parts and it had a leak around the top plate where the worm gear adjustment is.

Next video will be on adding an exhaust gas temperature gauge. Subscribe and click on the bell to be notified when it gets uploaded.

Thanks,
KT out

Thanks for the video it was very helpful but only high pressure line if you follow it up to the brake reservoir you can disconnect it up there instead of fighting with it down on the gearbox

Thanks a bunch. This was too easy. After everything was done it took me just north of 3 hours. I took my sweet ass time though and don't have power tools or a lift. I got a quality pitman arm puller from amazon for $40.

The hardest part (surprisingly) was disconnecting the hose from the gearbox. Didn't have flare wrenches small enough, and using an adjustable on it was a motherfucker.

Going by the comments I went with a redhead. I shall see how it pays off.

well done video. Putting a red head steering box on my 2006 dodge ram 2500 today. Same color as your truck! I'll have the laptop on the workbench with your video cued up. I've taken the pitman arm off before, iirc broke about 5 different tools doing it. Thanks for the video!

This is the best instructional video I’ve seen on YouTube. Thank you very much!!

I put a mention on one of your older videos today but I thought , I better put it on a more recent one. I saw a Youtube clip of Dave Ailey "easy way to treat rust on panels" video 1 and video 2 from Australia. Very inspirational and amazing he does up vintage cars for Hot Rods.

Hi , Ive got the gear box changed by a garage. When i drove home I noticed the steering wheel is 15degr left, it is related to this operation? I asked them to align it and they refused, claiming that it is normal and should pay extra to fix it. Please advise.

ceedell says:

Wow that's unusual!

I don't think I've ever seen one of those crack before. I've seen the frame crack where it bolts up before.
