Its insane to me how much shops are quoting people to replace a clock spring! It takes me literally about 5min to remove mine in a 2011 gmc sierra. Took me maybe 15min the first time and 90% of that time was trying to depress the release clips for my air bag! Ive soldered a lot of led strip lights which is the same ribbon cable as the clock spring if you want to practice on something much cheaper first

You should use something more like Super Lube grease that is safer around plastics.
