Really cool video, but it doesn’t make sense to me that you’d need to purge the air. The system constantly recirculates, so leaving the cap off the reservoir should permit the air to escape. What’s different than air returning to the open reservoir and air going straight into a jug?

Eric Llamas says:

I am about to do this job in a few minutes part cost 23 plus trans oil just one question the transfluid is used to flush out and regular power steering fluid is put in afterwards right??

Bob Haines says:

Yes folks, it really does work…. Wooohooo, spent 40 bucks on part( Dorman, 603-934) from Advanced auto, 30 mins. your done. Thanks Bud. Saved me from buying a new ride.

Jai ho says:

Thank you so much for your time..it really helped to fix the noise issue fro T&C van. Got Mopar resevoir from Amazon for $20 bucks.

Magnageek says:

Thanks, man, I appreciate the advice about the “hidden bolt.”

Margo marrie says:

awesome, my 2006 t&c had developed this high pitched whine when hot… mechanic couldn’t find any bulletins on it… saw the advice on U-tube, shared it with him and he started making calls to dealers..the dealer carrys 30 new resevoirs in the parts dept..(tell you something??) so the mechanic changed the resevoir and screen… whallaa.. drove to 1689 miles to upstate NY from FL without a whine or whisper… thank you so much…

I just did this, it seemed to help do the trick. I am going on a 2k road trip next week and will report back. Thank you for posting this video – it was a very useful one.

tstoneami says:

Thank you!!

Joseph Belanger says:

Thanks for the help. I’ve been putting up with the “whine” in my 2007 Town & Country for 2 yrs. It would whine only after turnpike driving for around 30 miles. Changed the reservoir and fresh fluid . Like magic, no more whine, now I think i’ll toast you with a glass of “wine”…..Thanks much.

kierratablet says:

This was probably the easiest and best thing i have done for my wife’s car here in Ireland!
dealership here went bust and every mechanic said the power steering was always rough and loud in a mini van…an american mini-van!!! WHAT BS. 30 buck Mopar part shipped from the USA and 40 euro in power steering fluid ( use only ATF+4) and Volia!! noise gone , steering easy as pie. I don’t think i can thank you enough for a perfect video. MANY MANY MANY thanks!!!

Richard Nicholson says:

Worked Great , Thanks!

Planoite0001 says:

I changed the power steering reservoir on my 2007 Chrysler T & C Limited and it worked. The whining noise disappeared. However, I believe the screen’s purpose in the reservoir is to eliminate gas bubbles created by the pump. Power steering pumps don’t work very well with bubbles in the fluid. Bubbles make the fluid compressible which is a no no. Initially I thought the screen in the old reservoir was plugged so I punched a hole in it. The noise got worse. Thanks for the info!

Steven Thiede says:

Thank you so much for sharing. I have an 05 T&C that was whinning once the van was warmed up. Swapped out the resevoir just like in the video and now it is running like a champ. Only cost 30 bucks and a little elbow grease. Try this repair before you take it in.

Great video, thank you.

pkschul says:

My 3.8 in my 05 Caravan has been making a grinding sound for some time now and it’s getting really bad. I’m hoping this is the cure! Thanks.

Just replaced mine worked like a charm,..

You nailed this on the head! I bought the part off eBay for $23.98 (this included shipping and was Mopar). Followed this vid and BAM…its all fixed. Grinding noise is literally gone! Back to normal! Thanks! Never new this fluid was to be clear…the old was burnt and filthy. Now I have a happy wife….as the cliche goes: “Happy Wife, Happy Life”!

Ashlysbabyboi says:

Got to ask, May be a stupid question as im kinda new to the chrysler thing i have had mainly gm products…. why is there a screen? my 96 s10and 98 blazer and 94 1500 didnt have a screen/filter.. i guess my question is.. why is there a filter? & What kind of crap really gets into the system?

Thanks.

glenn VW says:

I used this video to clean my reservoir out, 2 parts people need to know. First they can pull the small line of to drain it first and plug it when reistalled to prime the system. second when purging the old oil and priming with the new oil, the small line is high pressure, it poped out of my jug and prayed all over, but it helped me a great deal. Thanks for making it.

Steven Randolph says:

Thanks

I wish you could have demonstrated the sound made by the clogged unit. Im having a hemi, cuz I dumped my Voyager with a whining 2nd tranny…and bought a 4,ooo dollar Caravan in perfect condition that just started whining from the alternator side of engine. Im so damn paranoid about trannies now!!!

Vince2le says:

wet belt, and tensioner may be weak, or belt is glazed causing it to slip. Also, look down along belt/passenger side of engine to see if splatter shield is broken or missing.

Can anyone help me with this problem? 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan power steering fails temporarily in rain or when I run over a puddle

red2965 says:

nice hole in the res and putting all those contaminates into the Pump and Rack was priceless. You couldn’t afford a funnel?
Stealership wanted $180+ for a new one, god only knows what they want for a pump or a Rack and Pinion

mooses4obama says:

Thanks for posting this, it helped a lot. FYI for anyone doing this, the nut on the bottom takes a 10mm deep well socket.

FCruzDJ says:

Drew, this is an excellent video. I just picked up a 2003 Caravan and I have this problem. Thanks for the tip!

56v12cylinder says:

great video;however i have a 2005 t&c and have a leak under the steering;i keep topping it up with ATF4 (transmission fluid)as required according to the owner manual;however i see you just filled up with regular steering fluid…do you not have any steering issues?if not then i can flush out all the ATF4 and put in “valvoline maxi life stop leak” which i was frightened to do until now because it is NOT atf4 but rather regular steering fluid? thanks.
