A relay is used that the power drawn for the lights is taken directly from the battery and not tapped into the line that powers the lights normally. This is because the HID’s have a much greater power draw that the standard wiring loom can handle. A relay requires very little power to activate so the power that comes from the headlight loom will turn the relay on which essentially closes a “gate” across terminals inside the relay that allows the power from the battery to flow directly to light

Marcus Smith says:

In some states it is illegal to simply put xenon bulbs into a factory headlight due to the fact that there is a mirror in the headlight that intensifies the HID causing “Dazing” of the passing motorists. You may want to check so that you do not end up being responsible for an accident caused by your headlights. Great job otherwise.

I could not get the relay to work on mine. I followed you step by step and my lights would not turn on and the relay just buzzed. So I took the relay out And they worked fine but flicker horribly. And suggestions? I’m stuck

Nice job. I didn’t have to put a relay harness on mine. I put 55w 10k and it looks sweet!

So does the signal wire from the relay harness connect straight to the factory headlight connector? Or does it connect to the black and yellow connector on the hid bulb first then the other end of that black and yellow connector is a black connector, does the factory headlight connector go in there? I hope that makes sense, my car is a 96 accord by the way.
