How to replace the valve cover on a Chevy Cruze 1.4 liter Ecotec

Here’s how to replace the camshaft cover on a 2011 Chevy Cruze, but the steps are mostly the same for other GM vehicles with the 1.4 ecotec turbo engine.

My problem was the check engine light was on with code P0171 and it was running rough. There was the sound of a large vacuum leak coming from the valve cover.

So just to confirm, if I put my finger over that hole and it’s sucking in a ton of air at idle, it’s not good?? lol

They should just make it a metal cap just like the oil filter but that might be to easy I just had a bad valve cover no engine light since sept 2020 and now new valve cover and light is on valve tick and major whistle like before needs better cooling too cuz didn't hear a sound all winter now its very bad taking it back to mechanic thank god its nationwide warranty but ya might need a boost controller too to build or release boost for fun but pressure to

Drove my cousins cruise to the garage for a valve cover change 2 days ago and now the car has a retarted oil leak had to bring it back in … Safe to say they 100% fucked with the car now that I know how to change it

Installed the same valve cover with gasket and had no issues initially. I had 3 fasteners on the new valve cover that were pretty loose and started to leak oil. I cleaned up the oil and retightened the fasteners that were loose. I was wondering if I will need to take off the new valve cover and new gasket and clean up oil that might have spilled inside under the valve. I just cleaned the outsides where I saw oil leaking, as well as removing the foil coils and cleaning up around those as well.

Larson Flynn says:

Did you have to replace the gasket too? What is the silicone called that was used?

Dean Carver says:

I dont have a plastic valve cover did the 1.4s come with different options

Shawn Donovan says:

Do you have a link for the cover ?

God bless GM!

Anthony julson says:

If you go to cruzekits.com, they have a pcv kit available that will repair the stock intake manifold.

Ashley Venable says:

Any problems with a ticking in the engine? I keep up on my oil changes and typically when I get it changed the ticking isn’t as bad. The ticking also gets faster as I accelerate

Akio Crimson says:

I would like to mention that if you put your cruze VIN on the cruze/gm website, and go to the warranties page, they made a special warranty for this part, so you might be able to take it and have it fixed for free (or reimburse you if you already had the work done). Either way, it's worth a shot to check to save some time and money.
