If your handle has become stuck, or the latch no longer functions, you can replace it yourself with parts from TRQ. This video shows you how to install a new tailgate handle on your 1999-2007 Chevy Silverado.

This repair was done on a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L and the process should be similar on the following vehicles:

I just knew that where plastic met metal that the plastic would be broken, and I was right. One of the clips broke on mine. Easy fix………..
if y’all don’t know how to open your tailgate without a handle you aren’t a real chevy or gmc guy

I know this is 3 years old but hopefully someone can respond. You stated that we need to make sure the tailgate is down but my handle broke while the tailgate is closed and I don't know how to lower it without first taking off the handle to get to the latch rod. Will it break something if I take it off while the tailgate is up?
