Your video reminds me of ALL the reasons I don’t own a van anymore! I had a
full size van which seemed to leave me BLOODY every time I opened the
doghouse. Vans are nice to drive but a real nightmare to work on. I have
changed the intake gasket on a 4.3 V-6 in a 97 pickup. It was a WHOLE LOT
EASIER to work on than that van. My biggest problem with my V-6 was air
leaks and the associated tricks to isolate them. Would love to see how you
would troubleshoot these problems. All the best. PMJ

Save time and a/c recharge- it works! unbolt the compressor from it’s mount
and tie it up to the wiper motor with wire. Unbolt the mount and pull it
forward. Manifold bolts are now exposed and manifold can be “fished” out
the rear through the a/c lines above engine.

Absolute Excellent Video How To. I’ve got a 98 astrovan that’s eating gas
and has no codes and new cat and muffler so i may have to do major surgery
this summer and this video shows me the way. Thanx very much for taking the
time to show the way!!!

Thanks for the great how to video. Did you make a how to video for how to
change the head gaskets on a 97 astro van. If not do you know where I can
get a video for that. thanks

ScottysDetailing says:

Just watch this video then remove and replace the exhaust manifold and the
heads and your there.

I’m replacing the intake mainifold gaskets on my 98 Astro, 4.3 vortec AWD.
Watching your videos has been very helpful. I’m hoping to not completely
remove a/c and not disconnect the lines. Unbolting the compressor from the
bracket and tying it above. Then move the bracket forward, leaving the
compressor suspended above it’s location. Looks like it will work. Too
cold. Back to it in the morning. Cheers.
