I just did it and it is really simple (around 20min). No special tools
required by the way. Just a regular 10mm wrench. All that needs to be done
is rotate the pipe ccw so it will clear from the transmission and to
install it back in… make sure the black spacer ring is line up with a
notch on the housing and rotate pipe cw to line up the holes. If you have
really big hands removing the o2 sensor will give you so much more room for
your hands and also for your wrench.

I have a 2002 Cavalier. My car has been overheating lately. I pulled it
over when the temp gauge was at 3/4 and when I popped the hood the fan was
not running. It seems to overheat especially when stuck in traffic. There
seems to be no leaks under the car as well. Do you think this is due to a
faulty thermostat?

Billy Fisher says:

I just have one problem with this, you never see the thermostat and the
housing come out or go in to know which way it goes! seems pretty clear but
I have been doing this to a car that someone removed it all first.. so I
have no clue which way the things go back in.. also that housing has 3
bolts there to the right, and that can be removed.. that tool you don’t
need a 10 mm combo wrench works just as good.

HELP!!

Hey, I am trying to replace my thermostat in my 2005 2.2 cavalier. I got
the thermostat out, but I can not seem to get it back into the housing. I
am putting it back the same way I took it out but it wont go in far enough.
Did you have this problem?
