Hello Derek: Yes, if the problem is the sending unit, it will have to be replaced as a complete assembly. For your application, 2002 Chevy Avalanche 1500 5.3L, you will need an Airtex E3556M. You might want to do some diagnostics up front though to make sure that the sender is at fault. Terrific Video. I have a 2002 Avalanche and after filling up yesterday, my fuel gauge went from F to E about 30 seconds after I pulled away. My Low Fuel light has remained on since then. I know that I have a full tank of gas, so I believe it’s the fuel sensor. Would I have to purchase and install a fuel pump/sensor combination to correct this issue? Or does the fuel pump even have to be replaced?
Gregory: It will not be identical to this video but will be somewhat similar. The fuel pumps are different & there may be some changes from one year to another on the way the tank or lines are removed, but it will be a good reference.
