The 2 door & 4 door fuel pump replacements will be the same. The tanks are different, but the mounting & R&R process will be the same. Thanks for watching!

Metaridley92 says:

What’s the difference between the 2 door and 4 door tanks? I can’t seem to find any videos showing the 2 door models. Mine is a 1999 2 door.

cujo1975 says:

i put my pump in and i hear it humming now. problem is the tank straps are either to small or need to be shaped around my tank. the old ones were very rusted and the one with the long screw snapped off so i bought a new set i put them in the right slots but they will not reach the top screw holes should i bend them or take them back. they are spectra #123. it’s an 18 gallon tank

cujo1975 says:

i didn’t have to remove the fuel filter after all. thanks. problem is the tank strap with the long bolt snapped apart when i was removing the bolt. i bought new spectra straps, they look like they will fit but it’s aftermarket and doesn’t have the part where it will hook on the frame. will it just bolt onto the place where the other strap snapped off

AirtexFuelPumps says:

You don’t have to remove it, but it is always a good idea to replace the fuel filter when installing a new fuel pump. You will not have a lot of slack in the lines. You will have enough room to lower the tank slightly to be able to disconnect the lines & wiring. Good luck with the change out & if you need anymore help please call our free tech support line: 800-424-7839. Thanks for watching!

cujo1975 says:

did you have to disconnect the fuel filter. i was reading the haynes manual and it said to disconnect it. also how much slack do i have in the fuel lines when i lower the tank to disconnect the lines from the pump. Not working with to much room since i am in my own garage. any other tips you can give me would be a great help. never done this before but have done other stuff on my truck.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

A standard floor jack will work fine. Make sure to put a board between the jack & the tank so that you don’t damage the tank. Also, if the tank is full or close to full, you may need a friend to help lower the tank as it will be heavy. After the tank is out & all of the fuel drained, use a mild detergent cleaner/soap to clean the tank. Be sure to let it fully dry by using a lint-free rag and then letting it dry in the sun for a few hours. Thanks for watching.

i have to do this repair on my 98 olds bravada. what can i use to hold the tank up since i am doing this in my garage. would a 4 ton hydraulic jack be okay. and what should i use to clean out the fuel tank.

Benjamin Orozco says:

shut up you killed it

steelmesh says:

He left out the part where you probably need to take a cutoff wheel and cut the old fuel tank straps off (and buy new ones duh!).

351cleavland says:

There is no O2 sensor ina gas tank-those are exhaust only items.

pinkfloyd801 says:

My Airtex lasted two years as well. Won’t be doing that again! OEM is always the best choice. I learned the hard way. 🙁

John Wachter says:

I don’t think that suggesting silicone lube on the sealing o-ring is a good idea….O2 sensor may be damaged. Light grease (non siliconized) or oil would be my choice.

1oldmaster says:

In this case, the “unwanted debris” is the Airtex pump.

LastFreeVoice Jr says:

So under your logic if your fuel pump goes out, you should just not replace it in order to keep debris out? Then you can just send it to the junkyard? Are you on crack you sick little puppy?

1oldmaster says:

Did you notice that the pump they are replacing looks like new? Probably an Airtex pump that they just got done installing and it failed. Maybe that’s when they decided to make this video. I wonder if they installed an AC Delco pump. They also instruct to clean the top of the tank to keep any “unwanted debris” from getting in the tank. Good idea BUT, it’s easier to keep unwanted debris out by not installing it in the first place.

SurfBeat1 says:

Yesterday, after a 3 1/2 hour job, for the second time I replaced the fuel filter on my Olds Bravada.

I am not 100% sure the Airtex pump was the cause of my hard starting because the car took a couple cranks to start this afternoon, however, based upon the other problems noetd above, I wasn’t taking any chances.

My Delco fuel pump lasted seven years; not great, but mo betta than the two years I got from the Airtex.

SurfBeat1 says:

26 months ago I bought a Airtex Fuel pump for my 2001 Olds Bravada, from Auto Zone for $266.

On month 19 when the tank was 1/4 full, the gas gauge would read empty; on month 22 the gas gauge mimicked a windshield washer when the tank was 1/2 empty; on month twenty-five, it took 3-4 cranks to get the engine to start.

I went to Auto Zone fort a replacement, however, the warranty was good for 12 months. The manager agreed to a 10% discount.

I found a Delphi on Amazon for $175.

OSDCrusher says:

Airtex pumps suck. If you’re going to replace your fuel pump, do yourself a favor and get an OEM manufactured fuel pump. Not cheap aftermarket JUNK.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Here are a few areas to check: For a sender to work correctly there must be a complete signal path. A break anywhere in the system will cause an inaccurate or inoperative gauge. First check the ground for a loose connection, remove & clean it. If problem persists, check the signal side. Make sure all connections are good & clean. The fuel sender or gauge could be the issue, which are harder to diagnose. For more help with these, please feel free to call the Airtex Tech Support Line: 800-424-7839

fuel sender is the problem. fuel gauge on dash reads wrong or jumps from E to F
