Pretty good would like a little more details it’s 830 in the morning about to go replace mine

simbas61 says:

Thanks a bunch! Going to take my ride to the shop and let them do it. Gone are the days of the access hole, I guess!

Ray Santos says:

this video help me alot ,I have a chevrolet venture 2002, I am going to do it myself, thank you for your help

Jeana Richardson says:

the video was very helpful i need to do the same thing to my 2001 chev calivar

Autotechviewpoint says:

Most of the time I do not do that, just get right to the fuel line and take it off. Do often use a rag to try to stop the spray.

sydeshowbob says:

I am about to do my 02 sunfire (should be the same), it wont start.. so – how do you relieve fuel pressure before you begin, or do you even have to?

Addi Assi says:

Thank you for posting this. I will follow your instruction to replace the fuel pump of my chevy Cavallier 2004. here from argentina buddy. I will contact you for details. I was thinking.. I am sure you have access to alldata. Do you think you can email me in pdf more detail instructions? thank you

marty w says:

looks easy until you crawl under the car and everything is rusted to shit. i had to walk away bolts and clips that hold the tank up were so rusted then i turned the bolt the threaded clips broke . know they just spin in the hole got no power where my car is at. Was going to try to drill them out. But axle is in the way to get the drill in straight on. think i’ll stick to carpentry.

Autotechviewpoint says:

If I did not show it that way then no. I would REALLY like access holes above as much as the DIY guy!

shawn mulhall says:

can you get to the fuel pump via the back seats?

Davie Jones says:

Us back yard mechanics don’t have the high lift to put our cars on and we have to use a tree! and you don’t show enough! As for the rest it’s not too out of wack with what needs done! I have two jack stands and a two ton floor jack and that won’t hold up a car to take out the rear axle bolts. Them damn engineers always make life hard for the poor guy! Screw the rich!

Autotechviewpoint says:

Should not need a special tool

Autotechviewpoint says:

well in your drive way, dropping the gas tank, I would say about 3 hours. depends on skill level and tools.

Thomas Barra says:

how long its take to do a feul pump on a 2002 chevrolet cavailer

bgdaddy42069 says:

do you need a special tool for the fuel line? If so what is it

874lifejesus says:

Very helpful and thourough

1Finger1Thumb says:

Did I hear the Super Mario World Theme? Hahaha Awesome!

Margie Beecher says:

thanks for the video, the fuel pump just went on my cavalier, my husband was hoping there was a excess panel under rear seat, but i see he will have to pull tank. thanks for the tips on the plugs. western NY

adalynn111209 says:

nevermind. fuel gauge seems to be working fine now, had to drive few hundred miles to reset computer i guess. thanks

adalynn111209 says:

i used one from primechoiceautopartsDOTcom

it happened so suddenly that i had to go with a cheapy. i deliver pizzas and it actually died on me at a red light while on a delivery and wouldnt fire back up.

the whole assembly was only $70.00 with a 2 yr warranty

Autotechviewpoint says:

unfortunately you likely need to do a little testing. we try to use a lot of OE parts, Delphi makes the fuel pump assemblies. what brand did you use. IF you still have the old part, you could get access to the plugin and plug in your old sending unit and sweep the gauge manually, slowly and see how the gauge responds… a thought.

adalynn111209 says:

yea it was a complete fuel pump assembly. pump, strainer, float, sending unit. all other gauges are working fine

Autotechviewpoint says:

Jumping gauge on Chev is more likely a sending unit issue

Autotechviewpoint says:

Still could be a problem in the tank with the electrical part of the sending unit in the tank. Did you have the whole fuel pump assembly replaced, that comes with a new sending unit for the fuel gauge? Otherwise you could have a problem with the gauge in the dash.

adalynn111209 says:

just had mine changed on a 02 now my fuel gauge is acting up(never did with old pump) gauge doesnt even move until the car does. it will jump up to 1/2 or 3/4 tank then as i drive it drops steadily until its sitting back on E. goes from “3/4 tank” to E in a few blocks

any ideas??

float cant be stuck b.c then it wouldnt move at all

Jameson excal says:

thank you good sir for this video, made it a very quick job, although i lucked out because the heat shield was missing from the car and i did not have to unbolt the rear suspension to get the tank out

stupidgrandfather says:

Car just died just down the street last Thursday. At 139K mi, fuel pump doesn’t sing anymore when I turn on the key. Before dropping the tank, I’ll try the easy stuff first! Relay good-check. Fuse good-check. 12V comes out of relay for three seconds at ign on-check. Darn, it’s the fuel pump for sure. GM just can’t design a pump worth a darn.
So $300 and 6 hours later the car is running (I’m getting too old to be under a car).
Your video on the fuel clip removal was great! Thanks. California

gadams325 says:

Huge help. Have to change the one on my moms car this weekend. Thanks Ocala,Fl.

Alex Swanson says:

You definitely could have found that cheaper on the Internet. I’m still at the diagnosis stage, but I am leaning strongly toward the fuel pump and I don’t have any awesome jacks either.

Autotechviewpoint says:

Ya even for me coming across clips for the first time, very frustrating. Dealer info not always clear, and poor black and white images if there are any…

Sean Cosier says:

ITs all about those darned clips! thanks guy! Ontario

Autotechviewpoint says:

You are welcome, ya manufacturers are coming up with some different connectors now a days and a simple video can make a world of difference.

dinohorseaborus says:

Thanks for taking the time to video this. Thanks for showing how the clips work this helped a lot. I’m in Utah

dseipel1222 says:

prosaicscreename says:

Very nice video! Helped a ton! Thanks.

Thanks for your help. Big help From Phoenix, AZ

Steve W says:

Looks easy enough, but I don’t have the jacks and the lift. Off to my friends garage.
$234 for the pump alone. about $350 hopefully.
