Chevy Silverado Fuel Pump Replace In Under 1 Hour

Chevy Silverado Fuel Pump Replace In Under 1 Hour

This video outlines replacement of the fuel pump module on a 2005 Chevy Silverado Pickup in under 1 hours time. The fuel pump module is located in the fuel tank and this process involves lowering the fuel tank and replacing the pump assembly. This process is similar to many years and models of GM truck fuel pump replacement including GMC Sierra and others. CAUTION: Fuel is flammable and care should be taken to not introduce an ignition source when working around fuel systems. Fire or explosions can hurt or kill you and The Car Doctor doesn’t want to loose any subscribers so please be safe! Watch this video for more information.

How much does a quality pump run , reason being,I had taken my 04 gmc sierra to a shop to have pump changed, and I was told a really good one would run about$700,( pump alone) I thought I could use just a stock replacement from like o'riley auto , btw I do a lot of cross country driving (calif. To Alabama) often does it have any bearing on that?

So I just wanted to say that I really liked your words of wisdom at the end Brother. I can see it in your heart that you are truly a man of God. I would like to ask that if might pray for me. I recently lost my job and I have lots of anxiety lately, I feel like I'm drifting away from God & Having a hard time seeking His will along with my purpose.

But the reason I'm watching this is that I need to replace the fuel pump on my wife's 03 chevy suburban 5.3 because the gas gauge don't. I think the pump may also be weak and causing a P0300 multiple cylinder miss plus the engine light flashes when driving sometimes. It also sometimes bogs down and even back fires a bit. You can definitely feel a miss in the engine but other times it seems to actually drive and run good.

I already replaced the plugs and wires to fix a cylinder 3 miss which the plus was fouled and smelled like gas. I plan to test the fuel pressure but without a good scan tool I really can't do a proper diagnosis. Would you have any tips or tricks to do some other basic tests or even tell me the best way to do the fuel pump while truck is on the ground?

Also would you supect anything could be wrong with the fuel injectors, rail or even regulator? Once again brother thanks and God's Blessings to you. Ron.

Less than one hour if you have a lift, jack, and shop, 4 hours otherwise.

Great video! I was all set to bring my truck in to you. Then I visited your channel and saw that you're way up there in Alaska. You sound like a really good honest person. I've done a fuel pump one time in an F-150. Now I'm deciding if I can do it in a Chevy Express. Subscribed…

With every thing on the tank before braking pump seal. I go to the water hose and power wash it with a tire scrubbing calibre brush then hit it with air to remove water from the seal. After that then change out the pump. This way there is less chance of trash, sparks and fire. Water does burn but it has to be split down into its basic elements. LOL

Do you have to remove the evap system? Or can you work around it?

MY TRANS JACK LOOKS TO BE JUST LIKE YOURS. MINE WITH THE CAR UP HIGH ENOUGH FOR WALKING UNDER IS ACTUALLY ABOUT 4 TO 6 INCHES TOO SHORT EVEN ON TRANS WORK. I FINELY BOUGHT A TANK ADAPTER FOR IT AND THAT ADDS THE RIGHT HEIGHT TO IT. THE ONE I GOT LOOKS LIKE THE JEGS 79011 EXCEPT MINE HAS ALL CLEVIS PINS FOR QUICK ADJUSTMENT AND AT 90 BUCKS IT'S WAY WELL WORTH IT. THIS FROM A GUY THAT DOES NOT SPEND MONEY NEEDLESSLY. I WOULD NOT BUY THE HIGHER DOLLAR ONES BECAUSE OF THE PRICE, BUT THIS FITS PRICE AND FUNCTION PERFECTLY. PLUS MINE CAME WITH 2 RATCHET STRAPS AND 2 GROUND WIRES FOR STATIC ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE. FOR EASE OF USE CAN'T BE BEAT. PAYS FOR ITSELF IN ONE JOB.

Kraig Nagle says:

On the side of the road with a dead pump. Watching video waiting for tow. Good video and thanks. I probably would have missed the ground wire and some cuss words spent.

I don’t have a code for fuel, but P.O. 301 misfire # 1, change spark plugs wires, coil pack and I just noticed that it started to turn off at stop signs
And I pressed the gas and it wouldn’t move, checked for fuel filter their is it one. How I make sure it the pump. 2007 Silverado 5.3 L,4 x 4 crew cab

Robert Mashburn says:

Excellent video, Thank You

Juan Lopez says:

It's better to remove the bed… because when u install the pump u can turn the truck on and see if it's running properly….vs installing the gas tank again and finding out u pinched a connector lolz
