The actual clips are metal and are forced into a rectangular slot. You will need to apply slow steady pressure to remove them. Concentrate on removing one clip at a time. We did this several time in preparation for the video and each time it took a decent amount of effort. If you have the tools, just wedge the tool in between the housing and the overhead-console and twist the tool like you are screwing a screwdriver to separate them.

Hey Precision Led i have a 2013 Chevy Malibu and i bought the LED kit for just about every part that you showed in this video. my only concern is changing the front map lights because im afraid im going to break one of the 4 clips what is the best way to take off that piece. i did buy the tool set as well. it looks like in the video you put some force into it? not sure how strong those clips are. any advice you can give me on how to take it off?

Hey Sergio, Right now we dont have any footage of the last generation Malibu. Subscribe to the channel and keep a lookout because we post videos a few times a month and what we get is pretty random.
