Good video, HHR is such a piece of crap

Daniel LeMier says:

Thank guys it saved me a ton and was not that hard to do.

howard taylor says:

I cannot understand why the IDIOTS at Chevrolet did this. It is exactly this kind of thing that a consume remembers when the decide to buy a foreign car the next time around.

bigvan1977 says:

If you remove the long white plastic pin the spring will come lose. Then you have to disconnect the silver cable from the silver door handle and the old broken handle will come away from the larger black unit. You simply slid the sliver door handle through the front of the door panel, reattach the silver cable that manipulates door catch, replace the spring and plastic pin, and the handle is as good as new.

bigvan1977 says:

Thank you for this video really helped with how to properly remove door panel for my 2006 HHR. Although I was able to pick up just the silver door handle, the white plastic pin, and the black spring from a 2008 HHR at my local salvage yard for 6 dollars. Removed the door from my 2006 HHR and in 15 minutes replaced with no problems and without buying the whole door panel or whole door handle kit.

APDTY says:

Glad we could help! Too bad you didn’t purchase the kit from us though, we could have saved you even more money.

Lawrence Berry says:

Excellent video and appreciate what you are doing here. Had the handle broken and of course dealer wanted several hundred dollars to replace the panel. Ordered my kit from Advance and installed easily because of your instructions. Thank you very much.

Dinah4life says:

This kit works pretty good. I did it myself and I’m not the most mechanical of girls. An idiot can do it if I can. I bought this car for college because it’s cheap, is surprisingly spacious, and if it gets stolen or crashed into by some drunk frat boy I wouldn’t be heartbroken. The engine has tons of miles on it but has never had single failure and still gets respectable gas mileage BUT the interior is always in need of attention. Seems like I’m always fixing something on the interior.

TheGeorgiaSpartan says:

Thanks for this video! The repair actually took less time than watching the video and went very smoothly. I wonder if the handle were to break again, whether this repair kit would work a second time.

Josh Greene says:

Thanks a ton, saved me a miserable hack and slash kinda job

Lisa Starks says:

Thank goodness for this tutorial! Darn handle broke on the passenger door last week and yes, rolling the window down is getting old – FAST! This is one of 3 projects I have on this darn QUIRKY car!!! If not for the economy and lack of a job, I’d get another – different car! For now, I will rely on videos such as these to help me save what apparently is a lot of money! Thank you!

onebadsarge says:

Thank you very much for the tut.

joelman198 says:

oops you tube wont let me leave the link, click the link just underneath the video and it should take you to the parts, Thanks

joelman198 says:

Here is a link to the driver & passenger side door handles:

The Driver or Left Side Fits Front or Rear, Same for the Right/Passenger Side

sweetdevilpr1 says:

This little girl broke her drivers handle a few months ago. I had enough of rolling down the window to open the door and you know it sucks when you have to jump the passenger seat when your window is frozen. So…where do I buy the instalation kit, for how much and what else do I need to get??? I’m going to try to do this myself without any man help 😉

APDTY says:

The factory door handle was not designed to be removed from the door panel. The only way I know of replacing the handle itself is by using this kit.

airwick0905 says:

Can I take the rear driver door handle and move it to the front driver door handle?

Brinton Hester says:

This happened to me. I bought the kit and the new handle works perfectly! It took about an hour total. The local dealership wanted $300 for the part and $95 per hour for 3-4 hours (not to mention tax). $65 vs. about $750… Easy choice.

qthakang says:

Just happend to me tonight, thank god for the internet and youtube gonna take a shot at this myself

letro2005 says:

thank you a great video love it

sanantoniorealtor1 says:

Awesome Video! I just went to Chevy and they want like $500 to replace that door panel. I used to drive Toyotas and Nissans, because American cars were crap. I drove Ford F-150s from 2005-2010 and they were awesome trucks. I thought American cars have really improved. I bought this HHR to save on gas, but I see that Chevy is still engineering their cars to break so that they can fleece you on the parts and repairs. Making a plastic door handle is deliberate sabotage in my opinion.

Christopher Santiago says:

damn cheap American cars or at least chevy iam glad i came across this video thanks a million.

Ron Gagliano says:

My interior handle broke, called the dealer , $400.00 for the panel, $95.00 install and Tax rate of 8.25% $541.25 total. No way will I be ripped off period! I received my handle and followed the video as instructed. I did a great job and saved around $466.00. I also had to purchase a #30 torx driver, $5.00.
I’m just a regular guy. Took my time. I did review the excellent video 3 times. Thank Jack for the excellent service also on my order! The part is excellent quality also!

HotRodTom2 says:

Thanks! I needed to know how to remove the door panel, this video was very helpful.
