You will have to open up the door and check and see if the motor is still moving when you hit the switch.

Teagy Rum says:

how can i tell if is motor or regulator? thnks

1aauto says:

There could be an issue with the physical regulator causing the window to bind up.

MrDrakato says:

Ive got a 98 deville and i was taking a look at the motor for the window today because i just bought an installed a new power switch, but when the window hits the 1/4th open point it stops, and there’s this really loud grinding noise. I took the motor off and it seems to run fine when its not up against the gear. Any clue whats going on there?

1aauto says:

You may want to look for a pinched wire or a short in the system.

bluekeet says:

The fuse for the windows keeps blowing almsot instantly after i replace it and sometimes it takes a few minutes for it to blow again. Please reply with what you think is causing the short.

1aauto says:

The best way to determine what is going on is to check at the wiring harness that connects to the motor for 12V when the switch is clicked and then try and the back of the switch itself.

I have a 1998 Cadillac Deville and I tried to roll down the driver side front window and nothing happened. I even hit the inside door panel a few times with the palm of my hand and tried the switches again…nothing.
The next day I tried the window again, and amazingly it worked just fine.
This happened again one time since then – didn’t work one day, but worked the next day. What do you think the problem is…. my switch or motor or regulator? Please help thanks!

We do not really get into audio repairs. Crutchfield com is a great website that may cover this for you.

Thomas Drew says:

Can you make a video on replacing radio with aftermarket radio

1aauto says:

most like the regulator is broken but without actually taking off the door panel, there is no way for us to tell you exactly what is wrong with the window.

Mark Mason says:

I have a 1995 Seville. The driver’s side window will not go up or down but I the motor runs when I push the button – up or down. The window just doesn’t move. I can manually push the window up and down. Could it just be off track?

1aauto says:

You may want to test the switch with a test light to see if there’s power when it’s in the up and down position(s).

Question…..when I got a new window motor from the parts store we installed it and it only goes down not up….is there a problem with my motor or my switch…

1aauto says:

HI, We don’t on this particular year range. We do sell the replacement air ride shocks on our website. Here’s a link to them if your Caddy is equip with an air ride suspension. 1aauto.com/1A/shocks_struts/Cadillac/Deville/-/-/1999?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

Shogun Assassin says:

I used your instruction and replaced the window motor no problem, thanks! Have you done a video on replacing struts on the same car? Mine hits metal when it goes through even a small pothole. I cannot figure if its the strut, the coil spring or both. Would it be easier to replace both of them together?

1aauto says:

I would test the plugs to the motors to see if there is power going to them. If there is then the motors are more than likely bad. Here’s a link to them on our website 1aauto.com/1A/WindowMotors/Cadillac/Deville/-/-/1995?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

These videos are fantastic, they are immensely helpful!
One quick question: two of my power motors will not roll down. The drivers window and rear passenger window. When you hit the switch to roll them down, you can hear clicks…but no movement. They did not fail at the same time, it was the drivers window first, then the next day the rear passenger side failed. Could it be the motors or an electric problem?

Thanks in advance!

1aauto says:

It could be that the motor’s getting weak. You may also want to take the door panel off and put some white lithium grease on the window regulator track. You can also spray some silicone spray on the weatherstrip that surrounds the window area too. This may help to speed it up for you. Hope this helps.

Ace Boogie says:

I HAVE A 95 CADILLAC DEVILLE THE FRONT DRIVER WINDOWS GOES DOWN ABOUT 1/2 INCH THEN STOPS & THE MOTOR STARTS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE…..DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE

Jhony Lopez says:

Thanks buddy, I appreciate your help!

1aauto says:

You could use a test light to test the wiring coming from and to the switch. If there isn’t any current coming out of the switch, but there’s power going to it then the switch has more than likely gone bad.

Jhony Lopez says:

do you know how to test the window motor?
I think my switch is giving me some problems…
