You check for leaks and everything looks good. Your mechanic checks the cooling system and also finds nothing wrong. In fact, most Cadillacs can idle all day…

if these idiots knew anything about northstars, especially pre 2000 models
like that one is that the head gaskets are not the failure only the result
of the head bolts pulling the threads out of the block and causing the head
gasket leak. Also they think it worked because it quit smoking-your a
retard, did you notice the long crank? maybe it has a fuel pressure
regulator leaking too, but it was chugging when it finally started, so that
means coolant is leaking into cylinder and engine will run rough until plug
finally dries off enough to fire properly, all that coolant is pushed into
the exhaust causing the smoke on startup then will disappear after it runs
for awhile. Complete waste of time and money for that shit.
Genie in a bottle will not repair pulled head bolts, do not waste your
money on this stuff.
Shady used car lot trick. if the paint is bubbled on the valve covers you
need head gaskets and a stud kit with inserts.
i have a 2000 cadillac eldorado, and it keeps overheating on me what do i
do?
my 32north* mine overheat with no white smoke or mix oil in dip stick is my
heads still blown???
Plus the headbolt threads pull out of the block when the headgaskets fail
in a northstar requiring a GM specialty tool made by Kent Moore to install
inserts
These are snake oil at best- properly fix the problem once and never deal
with it again
It appears that they used a product that I have used with good success
repairing head gasket leaks for the last two years in my shop here in
Florida. I purchase it under the name of Thermagasket distributed from
California. It works very well on just about every type of engine except
the Northstar engine. You have to treat a Northstar engine soon after it
starts to exhibit signs of head gasket leakage otherwise it is very
difficult to get satisfactory results if it has been leaking awhile.
move away from California and have money to fix head gaskets
If this engine runs over 225*f there is something wrong.. either dirty
coolant, not enough coolant, internally clogged cooling system, a bad
coolant temperature sensor, thermostat, externally clogged radiator, or
inoperable water pump or cooling fans. Don’t wait for the computer to warn
you if there is a problem with temp. Check the cold coolant reservoir
level. Add 50/50 coolant / distilled water till half full. Have the cooling
system serviced if it’s been longer than 30k or 2 years.
how much?
nothing really works on a northstar
Did u have the engine completely out of the car? How many hours was this
job?
I heard the original duratech antifreeze is a contributer to the head
gasket problems. Flush that red crap outta there and put in the regular
green stuff as soon as possible!
I tried thermalweld and it totally clogged my heater core!!! now I have two
problems in my STS!!!! That stuff sucks….
i guess this the stuff dealers use. so they get the cars dirt cheep. and
resell high. then 3 months later headgasket blows and owner is screwed. smh
get a 2006 and up model, ive had no issues and at 92k miles, still runs
great, i had a 99 seville and got a blown head gasket, cost $2500-3500 ,
Tried this crap didn’t work its a rip off. Thermagasket is crap too.
that engine seems a little tired…
@2:19, last time I checked doesn’t “let’s take it for a drive” involve
shifting it into park and moving?
Fix in a bottle does not work… In some cases it might buy you a few
weeks, but it is not a permanent, trustworthy repair.
the white steam stops after 2 minutes anyways, with or without the sealant,
i just bought a 96 deville thinking the only thing wrong with it was the
coolant reservoir , slowly finding out that i was worng
I Thought Devilles were Dex- Cool Only.
Run in the other direction! The Northstar motor is a great motor, if it is
maintained well; this is an example of one that has not been, and therefore
the bolts have pulled. The only way for this car to run as it should, is to
stud the block out, and install new head gaskets. This “seal” will not last
long…
ya the only way to fix this is to tear the engine apart
no that is what GM used on Buick
You hit the nail on the head on the description on what happend to me
today.
Drive it off a cliff and buy a Honda or a Toyota. Cadillacs are notorious
for reliability problems.
What did you do?
most likely your head gasket is blown
if your northstar is overheating the geads needs to be pulled and new head
bolt or studs need to be replaced
