That sounds ugly, sorry. Seems like they want to replace the main control unit.

I’m having a similar issue. In my case is a 2008 model and is blowing scorching air flow on the driver side, yet icy cold air flow on the passenger side and back zone. Sometimes it switches from the front vents to defrost vents automatically and won’t return to summer mode (front vents) until I turn the engine off and then on several times. The “stealer” wants $935. w/o diagnostics for this issue. My question is, where is the actuator that would fix for my situation so I can fix this myself?

Chuck Strigl says:

the blend door that controls the rear ac is in the dash

Chuck Strigl says:

That is a actuator in the dash… Real pain to fix… Try resetting at told in the video… otherwise look at 1000$ repair.

I discovered that I fixed my exact problem you mentioned by manually turning the knob to open the door plus removing actuator and BAM cold air !! So, I thought it was fixed for good as I drove around the door closed again the hot air returned 🙁 However, I finally fixed it without buying a part !! I lodged the old part and a fat short butt of a screwdriver (the lime green color screwdrivers from Home depot ) to keep the knob in place and AC is working great day 2. – thx for video

In our 2001 Tahoe the front is cold and the rear is hot..
the front is icy cold and the rear is hot not warm hot

So, here is yet another….I have seen the hot in front, cold in back…but I have had it in for service 3 times, and last fix was rear evaporator, accumulator and 134A (1.70 pounds…I guess). Worked for 2 weeks, and now both front are hot, even back is hot too. Vendor told me that having it back 3 times, they are done. I took it to a friend, who back in the 80’s was an ASE mechanic, vac old 134, put knew in…..and using Fluke, saw 45 degree incoming, 110 degree out from wall.

Thanks for the info guys, mine did the same thing today, so I unscrewed (2) 7mm screws slid cover off and I noticed the clip was out of position. snapped it back in and AC blows ice cold again…

kwazadilla says:

Could be, but that sounds like a problem with the rear blend door actuator, there is another one in the back.

Gerardo Cruz says:

Hi have this problem on my 2005 escalade but I’m getting cold air in the front and hot air on the back by replacing the blend door actuador fix this problem

ZipZapDIY says:

I have heard of that problem before, don’t think you need to replace it. recommend doing the reporgram steps to fix it.

Shaun Mills says:

What is the part# on that blend door actuator? Replaced alternator this week and ever since air only comes out of the defrost vents. Do you think the actuator would fix this? Thanks!
