15,000 miles on it my boy just got a 98 with 50,000 on it hope we
dont have this problem but 98s are bad for it

Helicoils are junk. Use timeserts. Nice to see your blowing all the
aluminum shavings from the drilling and taping all inside the block. Motor
should last a long time after that. You guys have a facility repair license
to be doing all those repairs in your back yard?

virtualmarioone says:

Yes Timeserts are better if you read the description I write that in
there!!! Thanks for noticing.

Heat and time my friend.

I bet that was a difficult job for you lol. I want another Cadillac, but I
want a newer Cadi with a warranty this time. Do you know if they corrected
this issue on the new DTS models?

Anthony Wayne says:

It was a design oversight that was in fact rectified in later models…

trentman says:

Dont use helicoils i tried it, it didnt work pulled heli coil back out.

mynomen says:

how much did this cost to fix the head gasket? Thanks

jchizzle3000 says:

I’m just waiting on mine to fail. I’m just gonna rip it out and scrap the
car. What a ridiculous lack or disregard of foresight designing this setup.
You cannot cost effectively work on a northstar. Ever.

I have same problem with a 2000 Eldorado.. where are you getting the
studding done?

Mymothersson31 says:

Unfortunately, this is not a permanent repair. Eventually, the heli-coils
will pull out of the block, just like the original head bolts. Doesn’t
matter if you do it perfectly right, they WILL pull out. Only permanent
repair is to stud the block, then put back together with special studs and
washers. Northstar performance in Canada does this and provides a 5 yr.
100,000 mile warranty. About $2500 total parts and labor including a
complete bottom end re-seal. Only permanent repair.

Good tutorial! Thanks!

Cool video, Ive got to do this to my cylinder head, video helps thanks!

Xziau1 says:

Cadillac should be ashamed of themselves for putting people through this.

virtualmarioone says:

It cost around $500 for parts. Plus we charge $1500 for labor since the
engine has to come out.
