Re-manufacturer water pumps cost less and most of the time maintain the
same durability has the New ones. Most of the time on the WP hosing the
re-used with new impeller, shaft, bearing and seals. Maintaining a clean and
quality control mixture of coolant(antifreeze) will help prevent corrosive
elements and promote water pump performance.

What’s are common problems for a 2001 Toyota Corolla?

SteveXnycperformance says:

It will have to be oil consumption. Since it and most other cars feature a
small engine with below a 2.4 cubic inch cylinder in volume of a 4
cylinder. A 6 cylinder of 2.4 c.i. will even burn more oil than a 4
cylinder 2.4. this problem is due to small circumference piston rings which
will change its formation(fitment of piston to cyl walls)once the piston
looses tension to seal during COMPRESSION, oil will allow it self into the
combustion chamber for dirty burning combustion.

What is your Opinion on Re-manufacturer water pumps. When my mechanic
replaced my starter he put a Re-manufacturer one in the car. I asked him
about Quality and he said I will be fine. That was 35,000 ago & the starter
is Great.Probably from China.

Etienne Gignac-Bouchard says:

Is there a specific tightening sequence for the water pump bolts? What
about torque specs? Thanks.

giantAsFan says:

How many lbs or inches to torque these bolts??

SteveXnycperformance says:

replace the elbow. look in the HELP section of the auto parts store for it.
The elbow has a `O` ring on the ends, sometime just by replacing the `O`
ring will solve the leaking issue. The regal should have steel elbow while
others have a plastic. The 3800 engine was made for the regal so it got the
best :-). If you don`t have the `O` Ring, apply some silicone or sealer to
the `O`Ring area for super-cheap fix with free-be. Video here 🙂

SteveXnycperformance says:

🙁 . Don`t torque the bolts too tight. Fel-pro are the best or Mr.Gasket.

i have a 98 old intrigue 3.8 series 2 and theres a substancial amount of
steam comming from a relife whole from the coolant resevoir tank. What can
I do to stop it

Roman Sanchez says:

Just what I needed

SteveXnycperformance says:

Yea, you can use the Indian head gasket (shellac) or Teflon sealer(paste)
sometime Hi-temp silicone will work.

SteveXnycperformance says:

yes, little silly man i am.

nik12937 says:

I searched how to replace the pump for 3800’s, and you were in the top 3
results. Funny thing is that you’re the only one that mentioned sealing the
threads on the long bolts. You should be the top result 😀

SteveXnycperformance says:

1/4 turn after all the bolts are full snug/tighten by hand. or 10-12
lbs/ft.

I was changing the water pump on my wife’s 04 Impala today and couldn’t
figure out how to get the PS pump out of the way. I found you here and you
saved the day with your tips! Thank you VERY much for taking the time to
make this video. Project completed in about two hours with no leaks!

Please do a video for 2000 Pontiac bonneville I need to replace water pump
but need to see video 1st

dylan kurrle says:

why were you wearing glove anyway and i like your videos as well

SteveXnycperformance says:

NO,Da water pump is not for pressure its for water flow by impeller
movement.Da system will always build pressure even with-out WP funtion &
engine operational, due to heat transform water into steam.most of the time
a 3800 will over heat due to contaminated cooling system or radiator
prob.transversely engine does not have very good cooling air flow,so
coolant flow is very important.A bad head joint may push combustion air
into the cooling jacket causing a overflow/steam resevior situation, too.

SteveXnycperformance says:

@MultiJrJackAss will soon.most of the power steering problem come from
leaky hi=pressure line. If the pump keep losing fluid the rack seal might
be fault. the PS pump is simple to remove. two 1/2(13mm) bolts 18 mm
line-wench and a plyer for the clam on the low pressure line.

michael mills says:

Hey man I have an 04 but my engine looks nothin like this it has a 3400 sfi
if u could email me I can send u pics please help

SteveXnycperformance says:

well it will required all leaks fix to see if the system can hold pressure.
if the steaming continue steaming, suspect a cylinder head gasket(joint).
air might be entering the system from the crack rad causing the steam
build-up.

EverettM1984 says:

thank you so much! one last thing..since there is pressure that means the
water pump is for sure working yes?

SteveXnycperformance says:

i should be pissing my life away. man i`m a loser.

SteveXnycperformance says:

Replace the radiator cap. Read the other comment in this video and view

Thanks for this video. I have to change out the water pump on my 2005
Impala and I’m glad you explained that the steering pump was in the way of
that last bolt. Now I’m ready to tackle it.
