Buick Encore: Front Brake Job

Buick Encore: Front Brake Job

In this video I am swapping out the front pads and rotors on a customers Buick Encore with the big 1.4 liter. It is a pretty simple job most of the time. This particular one had some seized up caliper pins though. Still not to big of a deal.
-Enjoy!

Been using one for years but I never knew it was called a pushy-backy tool. I learned something new.

I have 115k on mine. Needs all the same stuff. Love the car but sure doesn't like dirt roads.

So, this lives the winters locked in a garage in Florida? Never seen a non-rotted underside for a 2017 in the rust belt. Thanks

@VDPEFi says:

Why didn't your torque the retaining screw? Don't you know that the torque on that screw directly affects the balance of the brake discs and not only that, can make the wheel rim out of balance and the tyre wear out in as little as 500 miles, what are you doing you absolute maniac?!

Thank you Eric! another great video! You are a Master.

I wonder if using the dry lubricant on the pens would be better then grease .the grease seems to gum up .

@jasonrizzy3862 says:

Thanks for the pro tip to simulate supporting the caliper…I'll definitely pretend to support the caliper or tell others to look away as needed for all my future brake jobs.

@joeyf504327 says:

do you ever flush the brake fluid as part of brake work?

@Michigan-Tactical says:

The reason the loctite is super expensive is because we'll pay the price.

@steadyeddie7453 says:

Speaking of checking the brake fluid, I try to remember to make sure the master cylinder isn't completely full before I press the pistons back in the calipers. I think the quick lube places like to (un-necessarily) top off the fluid. Cheers

@SouthMainAuto Eric, first time commenter, long time watcher. I have a question about the position of the wear indicator on the inside pad. I noticed the original pads had the wear indicator in the bottom position and when you reinstalled them you put the wear indicator in the top position. I’m not a mechanic, just a measly diy’er, but from the limited information I can find on the web it says that the wear indicator on the pad should be in the most forward position. So in this case that should have been the position the original pads were in. Does it really matter which way the wear indicator goes or is it vehicle specific? If so perhaps the original pads were installed backwards? Also what is your take on removing the rubber grommet on the calliper slide and not reinstalling it? It seems it can be more troublesome by trapping moisture in the calliper slide pin bore causing rust to form and eventually seizing the calliper slide pin in the bore?

@karencary3312 says:

❤ I can do it. Not really but it sounds good.

@wmichaels362 says:

Very good timing! Today I did the front brakes on my wife's 2016 Encore. Nothing like having a professional how-to as a go-by. Thank you!

@DDD-us6uu says:

That's a good brake job right there.

@edwarddemedeiros3607 says:

Put it back. Always follow specs. Doing the right thing is what keeps us out of trouble!
