Recently my brother went to the BMW Dealer and was recommended a slew of services. One was a Cabin Air Filter service for $414. Wondering how they could charge so much for what SHOULD be a simple job, I bought the filters myself and tried to figure out why the service was so pricey. We also get an update on the Cadillac Escalade Project and meet up with Rich Rebuilds and his sham LS Swapped Tesla.

That Guy says:

Same thing could happen for any car. Even my 25 year old F150 could cost $2500 to replace a $100 heater core.

Dealerships rip off as much as they can….its a disgrace

The air lift jack very impressive

BMW is charging $415 just to change out two cabin air filters I understand 100 but 415 very over priced for a simple service

I can’t believe people still buy ANY German car. Duh

Youtuber1 says:

I bought a OEM Honda Accord cabin air filter. Brought the car to the dealership. Got charged for a new air cabin filter. When I asked why did they changed they claimed it was 'dirty' and the Honda filter are better. The thing is…I changed it a week before sending the car

Really beats jackin it

Riccochet says:

The reason they charge so much for non-warranty repairs/service is because the manufacturer pays so little for warranty work. Basically, whatever the service center would receive for warranty labor and parts you can double it for non-warranty labor and parts. Those $50 filters are now $100, and that 1 hour of labor is now 2. Is it a rip off? Yes and no. For something like a cabin or engine filter, absolutely. General maintenance items you are better served doing yourself or have an independent shop do it. For brand specific repairs, like internal engine or transmission it might be best served having the dealer do it, unless you know of a reputable independent shop known for repairing your specific brand. And I only say this for European brands. Domestic or Japan/Korea imports I would never bother with a dealer service center for out of warranty repairs.

FYI: those measurements of the air lift is for KiloTons.

JT McFarland says:

Gotta be honest, kinda disappointed with the content lately…an oil and filter change…quite a bit too basic for my interest Sammy.

JT McFarland says:

I’m not a professional mechanic, so hopefully someone can chime in, but there’s a book for standard hours of labor per “repair”. I’m fairly certain it was created to prevent this sort of price gouging. I’d be curious if there’s a class action suit needed.

David Kettell says:

I can explain how they can get away with it. They know that only completely stupid yuppies buy Beemers. I have never changed a cabin air filter, i like to drive with the window cracked open for fresh air and never keep a vehicle past its warranty.

BMW means BREAK MY WALLET lol

fiily says:

A sucker is born every minute, especially at dealership service departments. This is why I never let them touch my car's, they make more money in service than in sales. I sold new cars when younger, and the master techs were making $150k/yr.

Fox Maine says:

$415 for cabin air filters is FTC! That's F the customer! lol If it was the gov then it's F the citizen!
