well informed and thorough video. i have just replaced my ccv using your
methods and found it so easy considering this is my first attempt at
anything more difficult than changing plugs! what i would like to know
though, is, at 2:13 you mention disconnecting wiring harness connector from
manifold sensor. I noticed mine has been disconnected and had electrical
tape wrapped around it. Should this be plugged in? is it important?

Mike Gozinta says:

It’s mentioned that the new valve has a case around it & the new tubes have
foam insulation. Owners need to know that this is the cold weather version
of parts. The non-cold weather version of parts is also available. But it
seems wise to buy the cold weather parts if your car did not come with
them. Otto’s video basically answers my question: can you use the cold
weather parts even if your car did not use them. A: Yes. Looks like a job
I will have someone do. A little to involved for my comfort/skill level.
Thanks

Hope you don’t mind my saying it so boldly, but I don’t think it’s a
particularily good idea to blow the gunk into the oil sump (10:00). The dip
stick is only stuck into the crank case, you’d better pull it out (There’s
a o-ring!) and then blow and/or pry the gunk out.
Else, a great video! It convinced me to pay for it to have it done! ;)

jk98 says:

@cartman6606 It would be easier if hecompletely remove the intake manifold !

BavarianAuto says:

Thanks puma!

BavarianAuto says:

About 4-hours. Our first times doing the job also entailed photo sessions
and video filming, so they took all day. Doing the job after that, on
personal cars that just needed the repair, take us about two to three hours
…. but we’ve now done the job a few times. We’d say that you would be
looking at about 4 hours.

Piotr Niewinski says:

I just got into this job today and you made it easier thanks

zeeaars says:

He is so good working with gloves , i cant

AJ Cheetah says:

If I have taken out my alternator to replace the oil filter housing gasket,
would this be easier if I just went ahead and did this procedure before
putting everything back together?

dchujr says:

Otto, thanks for the great posting. How long would it take for an average
DIYer to complete?

Mike Skipworth says:

hey, great video, But my experiance with working on these engines what i
have found is its much easier anf alot faster to remove the entire intake
manifold to replace the ccv and all the hoses, it takes me 25 mins to
remove and then its a matter of a few seconds to replace all the parts, its
also better because u can replace the manifold gaskets and clean all the
oil that gets into the manifold . All done it takes 45 mins or so. just my
thoughts. keep up the great info videos!!

cartman6606 says:

Wasn’t it much easier to remove disa valve, so it’s more space for your
hands plus it’s a good idea to check this bs valve

Apertues EyeProd says:

okay so were you broke the crankcase pipe and said how brittle it was that
is broken on mine and makes a werid loud noise on my 325i 2001 does this
cause any lose in power.because at times when i turn on my car it feels
like my car is forcing and my car sounds louder but im going so slow?

BavarianAuto says:

Yes, The system is the same on your 325i.

Oscar Villalobos says:

My friend!!!!! Thanks you saved me a lot of money!!!! Thank you!!

BavarianAuto says:

@TheAJCheetah Yes, to a degree, you would have better access to the PCV
system, when the oil filter housing is removed.

Jozef Mericko says:

Thanks for posting this video. I did this last weekend. After this
procedure, my back hurts badly 🙂

settjes says:

It seems that it would be possible to relocate the valve out of that god
foresaken location. Could you just move out and use longer hose. I would
hate to do that jobe more than once in my life.

Joseph Bass says:

At about 2:15, you say “remove the manifold sensor”. I have been trying to
find out what this is. This harness is completely missing on mine, and
there is just a piece that clips in, but no sensor on the inside. Can you
help me by identifying this part for me?

BavarianAuto says:

After many years … I’ve learned to, and my hands are much better for it.
These blue gloves that we offer are very good and provide good tactile
input. try a box at bavauto.com

Edmund Mendez says:

Is there a kit for a 2000 BMW 528i, my car has about 105K miles on it.
Thanks for the great video.

BavarianAuto says:

@samoahbay The job should be almost exactly the same for your M54 E39 530i.
The kit is the same for any M54 engined model. We have it ready to ship at
bavauto DOT com

settjes says:

samoahbay says:

I am going to do this procedure for m54 530i is there any drastic
differences in construction in compare with 3er? regadrs

BavarianAuto says:

@watuzi Yes, we do have a kit for the M52TU engines (this is the engine in
your 2000 528i). Just give us a call at 800-535-2002 or visit our web site
at bavauto.com.

Jose Francisco Medeiros says:

Very professionally done video, and DIY. I have a 1998 BMW e39 528 with
265,000 miles that I bought used with 180,000 miles, recently my motor was
replaced due to the previous engine overheating, and cracking the cylinder
head. The mechanic forgot to label the sensor connectors prior to removal,
and miswired several sensors. Do you happen to know the correct two pin
sensor wiring colors for the Evap Purge Control Valve you show in this
video?

BWGgy says:

30,000 people gave up.

zegolgti2000 says:

when i did a rocker cover gasket i noticed that the breather hose was full
of a yellowish cream, like was almost blocked. do you know what that may be?

BavarianAuto says:

We’re glad to have been able to help, Pete!

jk98 says:

Everyone watching this video should know that the parts with insulation he
is installing are for the cold weather package, and not necessary for cars
that don’t have that package.

BavarianAuto says:

It certainly sounds like a check val;ve replacement is in order … at
least as a starting point.

Grindcentralprod says:

I live in nyc do i need cold weather version i ordered regular

topshotta4200 says:

what are the names of the the hoses i will be replacing? I’m having trouble
finding them.

BavarianAuto says:

You would be better off with the cold weather parts. Your car was delivered
with the standard parts, most likely. You certainly can install the
standard parts if that’s what you now have.

Brian Hiatt says:

This is perfect thanks for the video

Matt Correia says:

Did you drain the oil from the car before doing this?

BavarianAuto says:

Sure do …….. That’s moisture in the oil vapor that is moving through
the crankcase ventilation system. The oil separator is likely full of this
goo. You should consider replacing the crankcase vent system …. and ….
you likely are running long oil change intervals. If so, consider moving to
a 5000 mile interval (if using a good synthetic).

Jonathon D says:

The sound on this video is screwed up

BavarianAuto says:

@EthanCommins888 The 328i throttle body is removed in a very similar
(almost exactly) to the procedure shown in this video.

John Gotdoe says:

I have a 2002 BMW X5 3.0 and I got a misfire on cylinder 3 with fuel cut
off and a whining noise coming from the CCV. When I remove the oil cap the
noise goes away and I feel the engine stalling and sucking air. The whining
noise has gotten louder and there is some oil on the threads of my spark
plugs. This is definitely my CCV going bad am I correct ?

BavarianAuto says:

Many people would be intimidated by the thought of removing the intake
manifold, so this is a great option. We have also found that the process is
shorter (at least for us) by doing the work this way.

puma721 says:

I wonder who the turds are that are downrating this video. Thanks guy….
great video.

Saucy0069 says:

@settjes bring it to me. ill do those all day.

BavarianAuto says:

Our kit has all of the hoses included. Just go to our online store at
bavauto.com or call our advisors at 800-535-2002. * Valve cover to
crankcase vent valve * Vent valve to intake manifold * Intake manifold
secondary hose * Oil drain hose from valve to dipstick tube

BavarianAuto says:

If you are watching & listening on a computer that has a build in mono
speaker, the audio will not play properly. Try listening on a system that
has a stereo sound card.

Beatrice Flippen says:

I have an 04 325i (M54). Is this going to be the same job? My car looks a
little different under the hood?

zegolgti2000 says:

thanks for the reply! i will do soon. i only use good quality oil and
change the oil regularly, but the previous owner did not! and thanks for
the video! very informative!

Ethan Commins says:

How difficult it it to remove the throttle body for the 328i?
