E46 – The BEST BMW – What $2077.96 Worth of Repairs Looks Like

LAST EPISODE WITH THIS BMW ALMOST A YEAR PRIOR!
https://youtu.be/G4gFLayhrYo

In todays video, we will fixing an ENTIRE LIST of problems on my friend and coworker Erik’s 2001 BMW E46 325i with a manual transmission. We start with a full inspection of the car, and then we get into diagnosing each of the individual issues Erik has noted. Its a lot! We get it all looked over, create a bitchin write up and estimate, get a monster list of parts coming, and get this thing looking and running tip top again. A few of the jobs I go over… Bumper fitment, hood latch, broken electric mirror, broken window regulator, leaking power steering lines, coolant flush, trunk latch diagnosis, tire repair, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, alternator replacement, headlight lenses, kidney grill replacement, fog light installation, it was a BIG list! We also crushed it on an interior detail and wash.

This video took a lot of time and effort, so I hope you all enjoy!

Where is your shop located

Adaster Dezaster says:

Our local BMW indies charge $175 an hour for labor. It doesn't take long before it makes no sense to take an older BMW to them. Most of them don't even want to see a BMW over ten years old. Our local Goodyear Tire store is $165 an hour.

Fantastic video mate! as soon as I saw you were taking the time to detail your friend's car I thumbed up and subscribed lol. Shows good character. A few tips for you: 1) Acetone dissolves crazy clue's 2) Always check where your beloved dog is when you handle Antifreeze, its sweet so if he licks a small spill, it will kill him. (I had a wonderful German Shepard who was my buddy when I worked on my BMW's) 3) Just add the word "labor" some place on the line entry for your breakdown invoice. 4) The missing clip for the fog lamp you can get cheap by the bag. Other than that, keep up the good work !!! great job !

Just curious, the voltage regulator is replaceable and usually the main reason for failure, why didn't you save him some money and just replace that instead of the whole alternator. When mine stopped charging, I replaced the VR, and found the brushes in it were worn out, the cause of low output. I do admire your explanations of everything you do, very helpful to a great many folks out there.

Do you have a recommendation or link on what hood lock you bought? I am wanting to get one for my e46 as winter time is settling here soon in Canada and got some stuff to tackle and I def dont want my hood slamming down because it already happened last year.

Another e46 saved. It’s great to see people putting money into keeping these on the road. Even if they approach the value of the car.

Top notch work as always. I do the same approach of prioritizing importance of repairs. Was a service writer for 10 years and it was a method that my customers really appreciated.

The tamper dot could also be from a LCM swap that wasn’t programmed. PA Soft can scan each module and verify mileage and vin. But I’d suspect it was the cluster as they’re known to fail. I have a guy in CA that can do vin and mileage correction if your customer is interested.

Keep up the great work!

awesome vid! bmw'they have a built in coolant burp /bleed system. turn the ignition on, heat to max setting, the fan on the lowest speed and then just hold the throttle to the floor for about 10 seconds. it will engage the system….it's pretty slick and very easy way to ensure no air in the system and a cool lil trick if ya didn't already know 😉

xxxxx says:

You must of done all the work before you started YouTube as the only E46 I remember is 330i with automatic transmission
