Dude, get a real amp. Boss is crap.

Utii89 says:

Nice DIY, do you got a recipe/cooking list for what u need to make this? And maybe even what you need to do? Like a step by step.

lorenzo melgoza says:

beer time!!

Bullshitkorner says:

yes you can

mrzackpn says:

Can I earth it on battery? cheers

bassphillyforeman says:

That shit old school just by a processer

Noah Cavin says:

why did you put garbage stuff in the bemmer

Bullshitkorner says:

i don’t it’s only there for protection as the Bmw electrical system is sensitive to voltage spikes

customamplifiers says:

Speaker wires do not resist and transfer huge amounts of current and heat up.. the heat is caused by the voice coil load and this is seen only at the speaker which has enough thermal coupling and ferrofluid to dissipate the heat. You have to be sending massive amounts of powerr thru the wires on a resistive load to generate heat.. it simply doesn’t happen unless the amp is grossly overrated.

customamplifiers says:

It isn’t that bad… people have bad mouthed the wiring without any credentials in electricity or electronics. I will say that it is perfectly adequte for 50 watt per channel speakers even the B+ line is decent enough for a 400 watt amp (20 amp load). I don’t know where people get this stuff from as you say they pull it out of their ass. BMW underrated the amp but put in decent wiring; keep in mind the power handling shouldn’t exceed a 20 amp draw the existing wiring is rated to this load.

customamplifiers says:

Your white wire is your remote turn on for the amp… when you turn on the car you should have 12 volts to the remote (white wire).

customamplifiers says:

You are right however if there is adequte current supply from the battery you will not see sags. You won’t see spikes. It is good pratice to use them but I decided not to use one on my system because I upgraded my battery to an 800 CCA. I can draw 15 amp with no issues however I am only running a 400 watt amp for my whole system and I do not need to wind it right up as the speakers will bottom out before the amp does.

Bullshitkorner says:

i hate the fact that bmw has to use such thin wire i’m amazed it never heats up and catches on fire

Bullshitkorner says:

the purpose of the cap is to take the load off the electrical system as the e46 is so sensitive to voltage spikes i didn’t want to cause any issues

customamplifiers says:

I did tap into the original amp for my E36 Z3… the great thing about this is that you can use all the existing wiring.. it is perfecly fine to use and in nice twisted pairs. Most BMW’s have a stock amp you can just tap in then put RCA’s on the twisted pairs.. at the head unit you send your RCA’s out via Metra harness. I even used the original power and remote connections. The great thing about it is the amp is on its own 20 amp circuit so if you are not pulling 20 amps you can reuse B+ circuit

customamplifiers says:

FWIW — you don’t need a cap for 400-800 watt amps if your battery is decent and has the capacity. If you start seeing sags in your B+ rail or lights dimming this is an indicator you will need a cap to take the load off the rest of the electrical system

Bullshitkorner says:

hahahaah no molson canadian for me that stuff is shit, i’ve drank moose head it’s not bad its a eastern coast beer

Bullshitkorner says:

no idea man, i haven’t even seen a vcr let alone used rf modulator in i bet over 10 years

Dennis Barszcz says:

yeah pbr’s bro you drink molson canadian or moose head lol m/

Dennis Barszcz says:

does having all that shit installed so close to each other cause any problems it’s sloppy but hey like you said it is what it is i got a problem not auto related but electronic related none the less my friggin f connector popped out of the back of my vcr i’m hoping i dont have to soder a new box to the circuit board i was able to get the tv working but not the vcr /dvd combo because of the missing connector i bought an rf modulator and some connectors i found at a dollar store any idea’s dude.

hddm3 says:

that sucks bro.

Bullshitkorner says:

and you won’t either as you can’t buy it here

hddm3 says:

what up bro, didnt see any GOD DAMN SAM ADAMS!!!

Bullshitkorner says:

thanks

Bullshitkorner says:

a rear mounted battery does indeed come in handy for this type of job, otherwise running cables from the rear to the front would be costly for sure

BMWE46 says:

that’s a good diy! good job man

GrandCaravanSE says:

I hate that you have a rear mounted battery, that only had to take an hour to do. It took me two days, almost all day both days, to do a head unit, and sub install, it sucks to run cables…
