Energizer Battery – CR2032 – https://amzn.to/2DecUq6
Little screwdriver – https://amzn.to/2SoeBpz
Save yourself $50 at the BMW dealership and do this yourself! All you need to do is first gather your screwdriver / pry tool as well as your replacement battery. Start by removing the key then very gently pry open the back cover. You will now have access to the battery. Swap out the dead battery and replace the cover.
This process will work the same for both i8 as well as i3 remotes.

HAD TO Subscribe! Took the i8 out for a quick Sunday ride & the battery message was on the screen. Your video was on point, swapped it out quick. Thanks!
BMW i3 Owner 2017 – Awesome Thank you for the Video Tutorial ♥ xxx
Thank you yes
Brilliant , Thank you
Thanks for the help and Jadebox below.
Thanks all worked great. I just used my fingernail to flip the lid instead of the screwdriver but with care both will be fine I am sure. 🙂
Ignore my comment. Was using Duracell with a insulating sticker which I didn’t peel off.
Weirdly I couldn’t get the new battery to stay in the slot. I found the white rubber was stopping the coin battery going back in. Eventually got it in bit remote now no longer works!! Have the 2nd key handy tho!!
i3 fob battery changed successfully. Thanks Key Fob Rob – you're a star.
Super helpful!
thanks man. quick and easy. i wish i wouldve seen this video first, i unwittingly broke my last FOB cracking the entire casing in half just to get to the battery, not knowing about that secret little door on the back.
You have just been blessed!
Mucho Obrigado!
A screwdriver would have been useful. Had to fine someone with long nails from the parking lot watchers!! Impossible to open otherwise.
What if the new battery keeps popping out? I had to change the battery in both keys, but on the spare one keeps popping out so I can't close it back…:(
Perfect – many thanks!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! VERY VERY helpful.
Thank you so much for this video.
