Damage Report – Neglected V8 SUV BMW E70 X5? – Project X5: Part 5

The grand finale of project X5! 2009 BMW E70 X5 with a V8 4.8i N62B48 engine, finished in Space Gray paint over beautiful Nevada leather interior. This luxury SUV was imported from Dubai to Germany and it came to me in a very neglected condition. Over the previous 4 episodes, we set about overhauling its mechanical state and in this final episode we completed the following work: rear shock replacement, rear sway bar bushing replacement, complete refurb of headlights and retrofit upgraded projectors, bleed the brakes, front & rear differential fluid change, transfer case fluid change, cup holder replacement, M Sport steering wheel upgrade… With that sorted, the big giant meets Germany TรœV (MOT) inspection, which is the last step before we can finally hit the Autobahn. To close out this project, we do a complete price breakdown toward the end of the video. Also, the ever-so-cute Mutzi makes an appearance!

Awesome to see you projecting it from the salt with Fluid Film. Iโ€™m from a northern state in the U.S. (Iowa) and I use the same stuff to protect my cars:)

Trevor Cronin says:

Whats a rough estimate of how many hours it took you to do the work?

Maritime 435i says:

IMO the LCI tail lights would definitely have looked better, i like them but i see your point too! still have the led running light so

Rikard Andersson says:

Awesome work as always! Atleast for me it really does not matter what car you work on, I'm not even that much of a BMW guy my self, but it is the way you do the work. The attention to detail and the little bits of humor tossed in along the way. Just magnificent

Adam Hamilton says:

Awesome. Loved the SUV series.

pkt1213 says:

I guess with the fill and drain being the same plug, it eliminates draining the fluid and not getting the fill plug out.

Matthew Romano says:

Style 214 wheels. Aka 20" boat anchors. I like the style but they are ridiculously heavy. I shod mine with 19" lightweight wheels. And I had a regional guy here refresh my headlights last year. Went through the same troubles you did with the wiring, but I went back with new glass projectors and OE triple chromed bowls. They shine just like yours and the cut off is insane.

Well done… Happy GF Happy Life ๐Ÿ™‚

Not J says:

Yep, I'm never owning another BMW. One was enough. Entirely enjoyed it when I had it, and was glad to get rid of it just before the warranty expired.

Matthew Romano says:

I had no idea that feature was available for the headlights. I guess in the US it's not coded in as my headlights do not do that.

J T says:

Amazing work and video as always, Sreten! No doubt it's already been asked, but curious as to why you didn't re-wire the headlights instead of replacing the insulation? That looked painful, but I'm certain you had a good reason for it, as always!

Phil M says:

10% torque on the bolt . What complete utter BS !!! I would expect more from you !!! Id already forgiven you for declaring a shock damper "junk" ( @2:25) because it didnt act like a spring and return the dampener rod. Doesn't help that you were holding it upside down when testing!!! Its a dampener NOT a spring and while the rod not returning is a sign its getting old , if it hasn't leaked oil then it should function perfectly well as a dampener!!!

Scott Kempton says:

Very, very nice car Sreten. I admire your persistence, thoroughness and patience. So you've got approximately $20K USD in it; how much do you suppose your time is worth? I'm guessing at least that much.

Andrew H. says:

I don't know why, but when I see the interior, I get a hankering for caramel…

Early Bird says:

This biodegrading wiring seems dangerous enough that it should have been a recall from BMW to replace either the wiring or whole light, especially on gasoline cars. The same as they did for blower wiring for Australian market due to fire hazard caused by guess what – biodegrading wiring.

Vaipar Vaiparr says:

I find it really hard to believe that you cannot find some used heated seats in that spcific colour. Those seats were used in what , x3 x5 x6 7series

Mario R. Saviรฑรณn M. says:

You are a great technician, too bad not for Mercedes brand. You are an artisan on the job. Congratulation on your fine work. Keep it up. Merry Christmas and a happy new year. From the Dominican Republic, Mario …

Tango_sixteen says:

Are those the smaller Rayban New Wayfarers, or the mediums?!

Tango_sixteen says:

Condensation in the headlight after all that work and effort. I would go mad.

Ioann Dubovoy says:

I so thank you for you videos, especially BMW X5 e70 I purchased one five months ago and having issuesI wish you lived in Florida..
