They told you to put OIL on the gasket! You want a clean surface with a dry
gasket to make sure you have a good seal. And silicone in the correct spots
are a must 🙂

Great video! All I needed to know about the repair was in it! thanks!

Mine is 200K + and still rolling, knock on the wood

…before I can get to it. The hose attaches to the cyclone and this unit
can be a bit difficult to replace if you have never done it. The normal
labor times should be around 3 hours to replace this unit along with the
hoses. I have seen cracked valve covers causes by this unit failing.

kokovq says:

fantastic video. called three local BMW dealers to ask if you have to put
silicon . all said NO SILICON just apply oil on gasket . thx for the great
video

GregScarps says:

Great video, wish I found it before I did this job on a customers car.
Funny though, you and I did many of the exact same things: Brake clean to
clean out the valve cover, installed the gasket on the cover, and put the
silicone on by finger in the rear. Alldata only recommends that you place a
small bead of silicone on the rear where you put it on by finger. I put a
small bead into the channels at the front as well. But I did not put those
small dabs on the perimeter. Should I be worried?

Thank you for the great comment 🙂

P0135 is for Bank 1 pre CAT 02 sensor. With a heater circuit fault it
usually is a bad oxygen sensor. How many miles do you have on the vehicle
now?

BLASIANfitness1 says:

This channel is simply awesome good job guys .

Jeff Curran says:

This is the best tutorial available anywhere for a valve cover gasket R&R
on a M52TU or M54 engine. Bookmarked.

my engine from the inside is kind of orang-ish is that bad or i need to
flush and if i need to flush is it good to do so or not mine has 177.000
miles on it and apperantly my valve cover it self its freaking cracked so
im gonna have to replace it again also that hose that connects to the valve
cover its hard and it has a crack pn it is it easy to replace or i need a
mechanic thank

Hello Ray, Thank you for the great comment and thank you for watching! 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

I can try and do a video this weekend for an 02 sensor replacement. I made
a quick video of the parts involved in the cyclone replacement. Plan on
doing a video on this too, I am just not sure when. I can try to get it
done in the next few weeks if you can wait that long. This sounds like a
bad 02 sensor, what model BMW and year do you own and I wlll look up the
wiring diagram for you so you can check the fuse for the heater circuit
first.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Sweet! 🙂

klinko2k says:

Great video. I replaced the valve cover gasket on my x3 e83 today easily.

Thank you 🙂 It is actually just me (1 guy) but I had a website called

Now I answer a lot for free on you tube 😉

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Greg, The BMW gasket is high quality so you should not have any
problems with sealing. It sounds like you hit most of the important spots.
🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Rafael, Glad this helped 🙂

Hello, Thank you for the great comment. I have seen BMW’s in the 300,000 +
range. I recently met someone with over 300,000 with an original auto
transmission and engine! It does come down to maintenance in my opinion and
starting early in keeping everything in like new condition. I think most
people should do more diff flushes and transmission flushes and oil changes
even though BMW does not recommend it 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Jeff, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Thank you for the
comment and bookmark. I always try to give as much information as I can. My
friend did the recording so it is far from perfect but thankfully it was
not too bad 🙂

Walter White says:

Awesome video. Might tackle this job myself. Garage wants to charge me 265
bucks to do this not including parts.

AskTheCarExperts says:

There is no good way to remove the sludge. Keep doing extra oil changes
around every 5000. You could manually scrape and remove some but you want
to avoid letting it get loose in your engine. The only real way is to
remove the cylinder head and have a machine shop do a cleaning and then
re-install.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, I have seen quite a few vehciles have this color tone in the engine.
It is nothing to worry about and I think is just a stain from the engine
oil. I would recommend increasing your oil change interval to help prevent
sludge from building to twice the recommended interval. Your valve cover
crack may be from your cyclone seporator. This can create high crank case
pressure and cause the valve cover to crack. While I will be doing a video
on this it may be a while…

I was wondering what the highest millage beamer you have seen? And thanks
for the great videos!
