Your E36’s transmission is secured by the transmission mounts.

They are known to wear with age and can cause drivetrain vibrations. Learn
how to replace them here: http://ow.ly/tBmAT

David Marshall says:

My 1998 328i with auto transmission has 220k miles. At low speeds the
vibrations cause the exhaust system to bounce up and down, banging against
the rear trunk area. Could this be cause by bad transmission mounts? The
car drives smooth after reaching 25 mph. The banging happens when
beginning accelerating and smooth’s out once we have passed 25mph.

Any thoughts or suggestions for me?

David

Noel Iniguez says:

Did this make shifting better?

Draco Davis says:

Hey Great video, Do you know the size of wrenches and sockets I would need
to replace my center bearing support and the Guibo? thank you!

truealcoholic says:

Hey, I have a knocking sound when I accelerate, downshift at higher speeds
or when I’m standing still in P (not as loud as acceleration). It doesn’t
knock in reverse. I think the sound comes from beneath and slightly behind
the shifter (auto) I have checked the guibo, which still looks brand new.
What do you think, could it be the mounts or the central support bearing?

Adam De Los Reyes says:

How do you know the mounts were bad. Did the car shake when accelerating.
My car shakes and make some knocking noise when accelerating

Awesome video ! Thanks !

FCP Euro says:

No DIY for it yet, but it could be a combination of things. Likely bad
transmission/diff mounts. It could even be a bad flex disc. We’d recommend
checking for cracking/tears on your rubber mounts and replace accordingly.
