Thanks for the great comment Su and watching my video!

cmanla says:

Great video. Thank you.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, Yes this should be basically the same procedure if not even an exact
match for your BMW 🙂

Su Garry says:

very easy to follow thanks !

AskTheCarExperts says:

Absolutely! Looks like the backing plate rusted and the previous owner did
not want to replace it. I have some rocks behind the tires for safety now.
But it will make a good repair video at least 🙂

Keith Evans says:

Thanks AskTheCarExperts. Mine is a 2003 320Ci with 2171cc straight 6
engine. Yes. Cracked it today and changed rear discs/rotors and pads on
both sides. On right side of car side the cog is top left. And it’s top
right on the left side. I can supply pics if anyone needs them. Also, you
can access from behind the disc/rotor if you loosen handbrake 10mm nut (one
for left brake, 1 for right) from inside the car. It’s underneath the
leather of hand/emergency brake. Mission accomplished!! 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

🙂 That is funny. On my BMW I bought it was pretty beat up. The backing
plates are completely gone so no parking brake shoes. Going to do some
videos on engine timing next due to vanos faults before tackling some of
the basic things this BMW needs.

Great video, easy to follow. Will this info work on a BMW 2004 X3? I
haven’t took of the wheels yet, but I told my friend to bring his car over
and we’ll try to figure out why one of the front wheels squeak. Do you
think the brake work will be similar?

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Keith, Thanks for the great comment. Could not get the link to work
though 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

You can use the silver anti seize.

MrTedco JRi says:

Great vid. man i’m lookin to do the same for my 1996 328i. I think my E
brake is malfunctioning too. Can’t apply the brake properly , the spring
button is poping out as well. so what is the reasoning for this. I Plans
the purchase slotted rotors as well. who has the best price now? PSL Fla

rednightist says:

You forgot to install the parking brake shoes!

quocpauo says:

Wow, no e-brake on a stick! Incline or decline parking is out of the
question. Even level parking is scary.

AskTheCarExperts says:

I have run into this as well. The star wheel is accessed through the lug
hole. Use a flashlight to find it. It is toward the bottom left or right. I
think around 5 oclock ish. Then using a flat screw driver you can turn the
wheel to loosen the E-brake shoes to remove the rotor. It should come off
easy once this is done 🙂

cody colina says:

what about silver anti seize

Keith Evans says:

Ah. I think it got stripped. Add this to the rest of the start of the link
as listed above. Remove _ from ht tp. Sorry I don’t know how to insert a

Thanks for the comment and for watching!

Keith Evans says:

Good video! Thanks for taking the time to do this! My rear right disc
wouldn’t come off today. I think it’s due to the parking brake / emergency
brake. I understand there’s a cog / gear that’s accessed via one of the
wheel nut holes. It needs to be adjusted so that the disc can come off the
hub??? The light faded today…. so I’ll get back on it tomorrow morning!

Raksasok Heng says:

hey I have bmw e90 . I hate much dust on the rims.Do you think if i replace
break rotors and break pads it be reduce dust ? thank you

Keith Evans says:

It’s appreciated 🙂 Ok. So I thought this may help too. Here’s a video
showing how to adjust the rear brake shoes. You may need to bring them in a
bit to remove the disc. If they’re old!!! Note: Vid shows adjusting after
disc removed rotor/disc. If your disc is stuck, you need to do this with a
flat-head driver, through the when bolt/lug hole. Get a torch and find this
cog. Cheers! ht_tps://dl.dropbox.com/u/50044370/MOV_1290.mp4 Feel free to
use the video and share. It’s public / free.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Good question 🙂 Unfortunately it will not help. The BMW brakes are great
and they stop amazing but the downfall is the brake dust. To eliminate
brake dust use the BMW rotor but switch to a high end ceramic pad. I used
them on my truck and they brake great and no dust! That is a common
complaint I have had from people on BMW’s! Clean the rims and they get
dirty way to fast!

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, The backing plate rusts out and causes this. It would be a good idea
to look into getting a new backing plate for the brakes as this is
replkaced while the rotors are off. Not sure who has the best price but
most auto part stores have some good options 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, 🙂 I am glad my video helped and thank you for watching the whole
thing. Thank you for the amazing comment!

AskTheCarExperts says:

Sweet! 🙂 Glad I could help and thanks for the great comment!

Blackicebmw43 says:

Are the front rotors the same as the back for my 325i ?

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Chris, Yes. Brakes are very similar and the procedures are basically
the same.

AskTheCarExperts says:

The procedure will be very similar but the rotor is a different part.

MyHowToTutorial says:

Your video was a great help. Straight to the point. I have done many disk
brakes before, but just wanted to check online for my new e46, since I
needed to replace the sensor. I came to this video to figure out about the
sensor, but ended up watching the whole thing. Thanks for your detailed
instructions (including the torque specs).

Chriss Stoeckle says:

is this fairly similar to my 06 3 series e90?
