R1100RT engine oil change interval is 6,000 miles (10,000 km). Gearbox and
final drive change interval is 12,000 miles using a GL5 Hypoid gear oil.
Since this was a beginner DIY video, I would add two items. When the old
oil filter is removed check it to make sure the rubber sealing gasket came
off with the filter and didn’t get stuck to the engine. First time you
change your own filter, check up in the cavity (use a mirror) to make sure
somebody else never left a rubber gasket behind. Also, take a shop rag and
wipe out the oil filter cavity before installing the new filter; that way
no dirt will fall into the filter as you install it. I add oil to the new
filter, almost full, so the engine starts up with a full filter.
what is the oil change interval for the 1996 1100RT? Also, doesn’t it have
a separate reservoir for gearbox oil as well? What is the interval for the
gearbox oil?
it should state the interval in your manual. I believe it is 6000mi.
