In this video we go over how to replace the flex disc, driveshaft, and transmission mounts on a BMW E36 M3. We discuss how to diagnose if these parts are worn and need replacing.
Located between the transmission and driveshaft, the giubo (also guibo) joint is a flexible rubber drive coupling that joins driveline components to reduce vibration, while allowing a limited range of flexibility. Joint rubber deteriorates over time from torque stress and heat hardening. A failed joint is a common cause of driveline noise and vibration.
How can I test to see if I need a new driveshaft?
The rest of the world would love it if in these videos on German cars, a country using Metric, they would also the metric system. Only 3 countries in the world are still foolishly hanging on to the old Imperial system after all. Besides, it's more accurate in Newton meters (Nm). Cause I personally don't know if 16 ft/lb is rounded up or down from the originally Newton meter specification from BMW. 16 ft/lb is 21.69 Nm… 15 ft/lb is 20.34 Nm and 17 ft/lb is 23.05 Nm…. so that means the original specification is either 21 Nm or 22 Nm.
Oh boy… the day the world will rejoice when the Americans finally convert themselves to metric.
The arrow at the disc should point to the transmission correct? Thicker disk for transmission?
In my case, when putting the automatic transmission in reverse, the car moves a bit (while holding the brake). I know the rear flex disc is cracked. Is this related? Are there chances for the front flex disc to be affected too?
does the drive shaft need to be balanced when replacing the carrier bearing and guibo
my e36 m3 has alot on vibration on hwy cruising. also i can turn my drive shaft by hand and hear that same noise like the video. . do you think i need to replace my flex disc or my whole drive shaft?
good quality video my man.
My guibo has no arrows!?!?
I know every car is different but at what mileage does all this usually need replacement?
You guys made this video right on time. Replacing my flex disc and carrier bearing tomorrow. But I didn't fully check my driveshaft so I might need to replace the whole thing.
Those glasses though. Nice!
Well this was a surprise, I thought this was a cooking show
What purpose does the flex disc serve?
