bobrown60c says:

Can hear the piston hit it on the right bank, pulled the valve cover and can see one of the valves stuck down

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

Ouch man, sorry to hear that. Make sure it actually bent the valves before pulling the heads and what not.

bobrown60c says:

You won’t believe this, put the timing belt back on,cranked the engine over heard a loud pop,I had left my breaker bar and socket on the balancer ,it caught unscrewed the bolt jumped time and bent the valves .still kicking myself, wil pull the head this weekend

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

Np thanks for watching.

bobrown60c says:

Nice step by step,thanks

Sorry I dont understand what you are explaining, I assume your car has performance issues between 1600-2000rpms and you dont think it has to do with timing or the ABS, well its hard for me to diagnose it like this but if I had to give you any advice, it would be to check all vacuum lines, there are alot of them on these engines and are known for going bad. Good luck

skinuxproject says:

DOT or POINT. sry

skinuxproject says:

Hello friend, I have a Passat 2.8, year 99, and I have had some problems in between 1.600rpm spins at 2,000 rpm, has spent several scanners in exchange and motor, I have a doubt be the problem in the ABS or the DOT passat.
DOT POINT OR here in Brazil is known when the engine is delayed or ahead. The car starts to take a tripidação, what can be? the ignition switched todo.Desculpe my English.

skinuxproject says:

the cranshoaft poley where the marck and where the point on poley?

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

I bought it on ebay few years ago, I also think blauparts online rents them with a timing belt kit. Do a google search for them and you should be able to find it. gl

Juan López says:

how to get the especial tool and where can I get?tank

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

Thank you for saving me a ton of cash. I was just about to throw my Audi in the shop and randomly came upon this video. Perfect description! I have absolutely no fears associated with doing this repair now. First timing belt, water pump and thermostat change on a 2.8L…here I come!

Carlos jaques says:

vc fez a troca da polia do comando ? por isso vc removeu ela??
o meu passat é v6 tambem e está fora de ponto e vou por por isso queria sabe
obrigado.

Carlos jaques says:

como chama a ferramenta que trava o comando de valvulas??

The labor is going to depend alot on where you live, here in socal labor is cheap so if you shop around you can get the job done inc. parts/labor for around $700-$900. Cleveland I guess $1000-$1200 would be fair if done by an independent shop using good parts etc. Job should included the whole shebangebang (belts, water pump, tensioners etc.) and yes service position for alternator replacement. GL and thanks for your comment.

Scott Goodwin says:

OK, 64,000 dollar question is this… How much to change the timing belt would be average in your opinion? What about the cost to just change the alternator??? (still have to put it in “service” mode)

MakeMoneyNow101 says:

the two bolts that hold the alternator in place are they reverse thread or normal thread
Thanks

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

No video but you need to remove bumper cover, put lock carrier in service position, remove serpentine belt and from there removing the alternator is easy. I think two bots hold it in place and you need to disconnect the wires that go to it as well. GL

MakeMoneyNow101 says:

Hi I have a 2003 VW Passat 2.8L V6 4 motion GLX do you have video on how to change the alternator on this engine.
Thanks

RatchetsAnd Wrenches says:

actually yes, I am in San Diego.

JOHNNY C says:
