This was extremely helpful! Thank you, I love my car even more now that I
can do this stuff myself.

@nncooper Is there a “check-valve” in the fuel pump? I’m loosing system
pressure immediately when car is turned off, but pump does pressurize sytem
after a few seconds when ignition is switched on… makes for delay in
starting.

I just posted replacement of the pump into the housing. Need to do this
step first!

I purchased just the pump itself off ebay. Cheaper than dealer! Then
installed it into the assembly. Most parts or repair shops will want to
sell you a complete assembly. You may run into a priming issue after the
install. Just carefully bypass the power and ground on the pump after
installation is completed. Disconnect battery and power fuel pump only. You
will hear the pump start working and build pressure. As the pump starts to
pump fuel you should hear it pour fuel back into the gas tank.

This video is excellent! The large plastic ring is a bit challenging to get
started. I used a flat head screw driver and my vise grip (as a hammer) to
get it moving. I also opened up the left side, but forget using your arm to
guide the side pickup tube into the receiver. My arms were just too long to
make the necessary angle. I did use that opening to drop my new scope in
and watch the pickup tube get seated properly. Remember to rotate counter
clockwise while pulling it out.

Excellent instructions, worked well. Just to clarify the float is
definitely clockwise to remove. Also found when removing unit from the hole
the rubber pipes inside at the front (front of the car perspective) of the
unit need to be manipulated as they catch on the hole. Only took about 30
mins total. Incidentally the pump was good it was the electrical connecters
on the inside of pump to the connector he pulls at 1:57 in the video that
were “HR”. Have to take it out to get to them to clean.

BTW – I bought my pump from the guy in the UK and it works perfectly. I
also bought the gasket sets from Audi, way overpriced, but eliminates any
potential issues after all is buttoned up. If you take your time and don’t
force anything, this is much easier than I thought it would be. Had my pump
out within 1 hr. 🙂 Getting the pump housing separated, installing pump and
getting the housing back together is the hard part. rust me, buy a scope to
put it in and run your gas down to E.
