How to Remove and Replace a Strut Mount – 1998 Audi A6 Quattro

Here is how I removed and replaced the strut mount on my 1998 Audi A6 Quattro. I was chasing a popping noise from the front right area and figured it was coming from the strut mount area.

Hey do you know what the size of the bolt that connect from the strut to
the top hat plate is? There is those two bolts that come through there and
I need to replace them and cant figure what size is needed. (I am doing
coil conversion on my audi allroad)

Nice job. What long flex ratchet is that?

Come to PA we have lots of pot holes lol . Roads here are horrible because
of salt . I need to get my outer tie rid done soon on my 2001 audi a4 after
watching this it helped me understand it more.

Thanks for the video. You should not use a pry bar on the pinch joint.
Instead use a ball joint fork / separator.

LOL “…it is likely you’ll have to replace your motor…” Sometime that
is the painful truth.

I’m pretty sure it was loose Strut top Nut and not strut mount(on video it
looks fine). Also I would check strut – while in there.
I had the same popping noise, I tighten strut nut and popping noise
disappear.

I might have a similar situation so this is a perfect timing. Do you I can
wait this out till summer? What do you think might happen if i ignore this
kind of strut mount problem?
