Audi RS4 B7 – 4.2 V8 – Starter Motor change DIY. How to change starter motor on Audi RS4

After experiencing starting issues in my Audi RS4 B7, i decided not to faff around with relays and diagnosing wiring issues, etc. and go straight for Starter Motor change. This is a quick DIY tutorial. With all the right tools and about 3-5h you can do it on your drive.

Exactly the DYI I need for my RS4! Thank you!

Thank you for creating this video; it was very helpful! This job was a lot harder than I anticipated given how tight the spaces are around a lot of the bolts; especially for the heatshield. Here are the part numbers for the bolts that need to be replaced: Long subframe bolt: N90956803. Two shorter bolts: N90663002. Two bolts that connect the anti-sway bar to the end links: N90628205.

This is why I only drive old cars lmao

Does this work for S4 b6?

@jakshiz says:

Do you recall specifically the tools needed?? Didn’t look like a terrible large amount. 16mm socket for the starter bolts?? 13mm for the cable on the starter, 13mm for the motor mount nuts, ball end Allen 6-7mm for the motor mounts?? Just curious, if going to do this at home and curious

@flannyclips2545 says:

Does anyone k ow if this is the same on the b6 s4?

@mikemacb7rs4 says:

I have a 2008 B7 RS4 I checked my relays (relays 645) they seem okay. I checked my switches they checked okay. So I was going to buy the starter and I was ready to take it out and I found like 16 gauge or 14 gauge single wire just unplugged. Plugged it back in and it started.

Thanks! Appreciate it

3.2 fsi. Needs new starter motor…I'm funked, last time I needed to replace a light bulb on the rear, I had to take apart half car. Not to say about my front ballast…

@stevenbean9706 says:

Placing any starter between the engine and motor mount is insane , its asking for starter failure .That is the absolute worst design ive ever seen.the 3.2 is just as bad .

Is it the same on the S4?
