Audi Q5, SQ5 (2009 – present) – New Battery Install

Learn how to install a new battery in an Audi Q5 or SQ5. We’ll show you how to replace/change/remove with simple tips and tricks to help get you started!

Tool List: 10mm triple square bit, 10mm wrench

The 12 volt battery in this 2018 Audi Q5 is located in the trunk behind the rear passenger seats. Although this video may provide you with the basic procedures, we recommend that you check with the vehicle manufacture’s step by step procedures found in service/repair manuals for the vehicle you are working on.

Even if your vehicle did not come with an AGM battery, you can upgrade to an AGM battery for up to 2x the life. AGM can be found at most retail outlets. You can learn more about AGM here: https://www.autobatteries.com/en-us/battery-technology-types/absorbent-glass-mat-agm-battery

The use of a memory saving procedure will keep the memory alive on the vehicle’s computer during the battery replacement procedure. Referring to our Memory Saving video will provide you with various memory saving procedures that can be used according to vehicle manufacturer’s requirements. https://youtu.be/vSP3ShcaFgQ

This vehicle requires the 12 volt battery to be registered with the vehicle’s Battery Control Module or Computer after replacement. The end of the video will show to how to complete this using an Autel unit. Numerous scan tools and battery testers can complete this task… some as low as $100 on Amazon. For generic videos on Battery registration and coding, see our other videos at https://youtu.be/TGKohKZHzr0 & https://youtu.be/cxOK_DczRGg

Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working with or near batteries.

I have a 2014 Q5 TDI and after watching this video discovered my trunk looks nothing like this. The battery is all the way at the rear of the car behind the spare tire.

What a complicated procedure! Can you remove the battery hold-down-strap bolt by using channel lock pliers?

Forgot to mention where the other terminals are located when connecting power for keeping memory.

Roy Meynell says:

No you have to have 12 bolt back up supply before you remove old battery other wise the alarm and memory information will be lost .

Nick Busscher says:

What about the battery coding that needs to be changed in the car's system? Is that not a necessity?

I have 2 questions,
1. You put memory saver, what is a reason for it?
2. If you put trickle charger to keep up charge the battery where it will be connected?

Ray Lindsay says:

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I believe that the car is required to be coded to the new battery. This is needed so that the alternator charging is aligned with a newer battery in order to prevent damage or shorten the life. Does this need to be done by a dealer?
