Peter Youssef says:

I ended up selling my car and bought a Honda Accord Euro Luxury Navi 2.4L,
All what I have to say that it’s extremely reliable! Unbelievable
reliability.. I drove it from Melbourne to Brisbane and back, about 4,200km
round trip and not even a single drop of oil was consumed! I checked the
oil before I leave and took a photo and I checked it when I got back to
Melbourne and it’s on the same level exactly and I drove the car hard on a
few instances when overtaking slow traffic on the way and revved the shit
out of it to 7,000rpm. I’ve owned the car for 8 months now and I haven’t
spent a dollar on repairs :)

tomee584 says:

My 2.0 TFSI from 2011 takes 1l/5000km.. That’s a freaking joke. This is my
first audi. Have a wild guess if it’s the last one too….

M PRODUCTION says:

Thanks bro for this video. I have A4 2001 and it is losses alot of oil .
iam worrying about the cost that they ganna fix. any idea abt the cost.
anyway iam in Brisbane it is burning the oil .

정민규 says:

hi guys. i got 2010 a5 coupe 2.0 tfsi turbo. done approx 118000.
bought brand new and started to have problems with oil issues from the
start. up until last week i had to add 1liter of oil in every 400km and 2
days ago, car was driving very rough and got it towed to the audi repair
shop in oakleigh vic.au. not a dealer since the warranty ran out. they told
me yesterday i need to replace all pistons and rods due to the oil burning
problem and cant not just replace the rings. and quoted me au $6500 to do
the job with imported piston kits from US since audi approved ones will
cost twice as much…..i am shocked and dont know if that is a rip off or
not. and they told me there are 3 others with the same problems in their
shop. what do you guys think?

SacreDro says:

Just put a tricker oil in it.

John Jerrehian says:

Sorry to hear this. My A4 has over 250,000 miles and does not use oil
between my 5k oil changes. My wife has a 2011 TT and it has been perfect.

Mary Ann McCarthy says:

I have an Audi A4 2009 manufactured
Oil comsumption is 1L for 500Km
I see there is a world wide issue around this problem. Class action can
anyone advise?

Jeremy Stewart says:

How about your Change the Brand of Oil….Or Sell your car if your so
upset….some cars are lemons, what can ya say.

Denis says:

I have this issue with my 2010 audi a5 as well. Simply change the oil to
10w 60 or 5w 50 and you will no longer burn oil . Make sure to let the car
warm up before driving it tho

Rui You says:

My 2003 A4 has same issue as well, but it already last over 10 years. all
you need to do is to add some more when need, same as petrol.

nigel pasco says:

hi fourpipes. what further developments has come since this video. I have a
Q5 also bought in Brisbane 2009 model which also had “normal” oil
consumption issues. Recently, the situation has deteriorated. The stage 1
test used 1L after only 580km!

Daniel Bronco says:

I used to have the problem, too. I have an Audi a5 with the same engine
(2.0TFSI). A friend of mine (former Audi mechanic) replaced all relevant
stuff by his own and now the oil consumption seems to be gone (1500km)…

Zhang Allen says:

I’ve driven my 2014 Q5 2.0 TFSI(in canada) for 9000+ km since the scheduled
maintenance at 8500 km, and the oil is still pretty much full after that
oil change(at least according to the system). Maybe it was a problem with
older models. I don’t think the newer models still have this problem.

Manel Sarasa says:

Guys, I have the same problem in Spain. I need to pump 1L every 1400km.
Audi has been playing with me until the guarantee expired and they are now
telling me that the consumption is normal since it is specified in the
manual. That I should have read the manual prior to buying the car. This is
unacceptable. Audi is destroying their brand. Is there anyone in this forum
interested to join forces in a legal case against AUDI?

buismlawina says:

Add A5 to your list, mine originally did 5000km/L, then it dropped to
1500km. They changed a few parts, went back up to about 3800km/L, but now
that part must be worn again because it’s down to 1800km/L.

metsfaninct says:

I can confirm that the dealer says this is normal.

segoiii says:

Vw / Audi has always had problems with oil consumption. The Audi 80 in the
80s already had problems with this issue. However, not every engine if
affected. The early 1.4 16V (75hp and 100hp), the 2.0 8V with 115hp had
massive problems with this. And, as i see, until today this is not solved.

pirlosful says:

Audi sucks

mlodydark says:

Same as BMW first 3000 km with mineral oil ,gently ,otherwise….

Noah Brigdan says:

Ya big car companies can just fuck their customers and not pay the
consequences. Such a pain in the ass when they actually make good cars…

Cavin Soo says:

Did you break in the engine properly as in drive it as hard as you could
during the first 3 hours of its life? I know a lot of cars don’t have to do
it but with this known issue on 2.0 TFSI, you may need to break it in.

holmikehol says:

Change the bougies/zuendkerzen: with quality ones. better engine
performance and low oil consumption.

Gonzarelli says:

i have a 2012(my13) audi a4 with this engine and i havent noticed any drop
in oil levels. VW/Audi must have fixed the problem within the last few
years. Your option is sell the car or get some oil and top it up, either
option isnt that hard to do

Ryan Warren says:

I have a 1.4 TFSI A3 and I’ve drove it for only 2,500 so far and it’s
nearly at the bottom of the dip stick range and if I remember correctly it
was about 3/4 when I got it

Pedro Ventura says:

I have the same problem with my VW with low KMs!

Kriflo83 says:

I have the same problem! 1L oil/1000km. I’m using Mobil1 ESP Formula 5W-30.
All my other Audi’s I’ve owned have used Castrol, but this was imported
from Audi Stuttgart in Germany, so I should’nt doubt them. (I live in
Norway). Love the car, but hate the oil consumption!

xi yuan Zhang says:

Change the oil to OW40 will be fine, do not use OW30 anymore.

gunther adbquhab says:

only get a 1.9 tdi or the 1.6 8v petrol when it comes to vw or audi

MONTANAMAIL0 says:

Audi says it’s normal. Imagine a dealer telling you your 40$ thousand plus
vehicle needs sporadic oil topping off. Any engine that burns oil has
piston and rings problem. Don’t insult customers audi

vq says:

I will never purchase another Audi! The brand new one was leaking a quart
of oil every 1,000 miles and they had to pull the motor and replace the
piston and rings. The car was always at the dealership. The worst part was
Audi never made it right and I had to trade it. Now there is a class action
lawsuit for all 2.0 turbo motors made from 09 to 12. The service manager
from Langon Audi in Albany N.Y. told me they have been replacing piston and
rings in motors about twice a week for the last two years. Audi has never
issued a recall for this oil consumption problem. What a great company

Aviwe Ngcingwana says:

This is a problem with these engines I’ve been having the same issues with
2012 Scirroco 2.0tsi & Vw South Africa kept telling that it is with in
spec, now they tell me they need to change Pistons & rings on the car to
rectify the issue.

holmikehol says:

1L on 15.000 km 1.8 tfsi. 1L Castrol Edge = max 8,30 euro. Turbo engines
always use more oil. The 2.0 uses more and the heavy cars like q5 comparing
to a sport coupe.

justplainrick says:

Just an update from my previous post below about my A4 with the oil
consumption problem. Audi did the step 1 where they changed the valve and
seal and asked that I drive it for 650 to 1000 miles then bring it back or
sooner if the oil light came on. Well 480 miles and the oil light came on.
Just got word they did their verification and Audi is authorizing the next
step to change the rings and pistons. All free of charge with a loner
provided. The only issue is having to wait as there are 8 others with the
same problem in line before mine. No big deal though, I just pleased as
punch they are rebuilding my engine as the car has 73,000 miles on it.
Granted engines should not need rebuilt at 73,000 miles but very happy with
Audi service.

xi yuan Zhang says:

The more you put on the odometer, then worse it gets. I have seen S4’s
engine with oil consumption problem, when dismantle the engine, inlet
manifold and exhaust manifold is full of tar and burned oil
resiude…..it’s crazy….

andrewkehoe455 says:

But oil consumption in a Turbocharged TFSI engine is deliberate & normal.
Turbos spin fast, get hot & deliberatly consume oil.

xi yuan Zhang says:

Audi expalined that burning oil is to reduce the temperature of the
turbocharged engine, hence performance is gained. Similarly same principle
applied to other Audi engines such as 2.0T, 3.0T(SC) etc . It is amazing
that 2.4 v6 NA also consumes 1L but every 4000 or 5000km.

Other VW or porsche do have similar problem. Extreme case been showed as
4.8 turbo cayenne consumes 1.5L every 1000km. I am driving SAAB 9-5 Aero
with 2.3 L4 260bhp, i have no problem with oil consumption, 4L in,4L out,
many of SAAB tuners get ECU upgraded to 300bhp, or even higher with no
problem of oil consumption.

Amex Gate says:

2011 A5 same problem, 3500 miles almost gone.

xi yuan Zhang says:

Man you should be happy. Some others Audi’s engine consumes 1L/1000KM.
there is solution you can try, using 5w40 rather than 30, higher viscosity
maybe resolve this problem.

Primarily it is the Audi engine design problem, at the beginning of
Turbocharged Audi 1.8T engine, oil consumption is happened. It’s because
the oil moisture have been sucked back to the crankshaft room and get burn
will petrol together.
