97 Audi A4 2.8Q Engine misfire problem. How do I fix???

This is my 97 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro 12v. I replaced the spark plugs about 4-5 months ago and everything was fine. My car started acting weird about 2 weeks ago…

I know on these cars that if the pcv valve and hoses aren’t connected or
broken that it will cause misfires. Lots of time people change all kinds of
stuff like plugs, wires etc and all it was was the pcv valve diaphram etc.

Joshka Kaiser says:

I’ve had the exact same problems with my 97 audi a4 2.8. There is a list of
fixes for the misfire problem that is typical with this 12v motor. I agree
with Dalton. It looks like a missfire by the error codes and the noise. 1st
is vacuum hoses, 2nd is PCV hoses, 3rd is battery, 4th is wires, plugs,
coils, 5th is fuel filter (MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE ON MINE) 6th is
injectors, 7th is timing, and 8th is O2 sensors detecting a leak or
failing. Both front O2 sensors can go bad after failed fuel injectors run
the fuel too rich. Now that you’ve fixed them, it might be too late to save
your 02s

1993VR6Corrado says:

might have lost compression in one of the cylinders

joey Gunther says:

When u replaced the coils did u check the wiring

Isis McCray says:

Google my post

motosniper1 says:

bad or wrong O2 sensors or vac leak at t body or SAS hosing along back of
the engine…that convoluted tubing black hosing about 1′ dia…

Dalton Schultz says:

If it takes awhile to get up to speed and isn’t firing correctly it has to
be the cars timing. Sounds like the timing is off slightly. Adjust the
timing belt/chain

justin michael says:

my beetle misfires rather badly as well causing it to occasionally sound
like a subaru. the wires you have may be in the wrong place as well

audi sucks a technical desease…sell it!

mitazakee says:

Car back to running alright, still misfire in #4, turns out the coil pack I
ordered was bad, I just put the old one back on after making this and she
was running fine for a little bit. Now my problem is that at a cold start
she drives fine and after about 10-15 minutes of driving it just had no
more pep and even sounds like an injector is popping out. Does the bog down
thing when I go full throttle.

Cessna readyfortakeoff says:

Whats a coil pack?

Nikost1987 says:

*plus check for any air leaks on your exhaust system…usually flex pipes
go bad…

christensenjacob91 says:

Could be bad fuel injectors or weak fuel pump.

justin michael says:

move your amp wire you can cause a fire

mitazakee says:

still heasatint, egr valve hard fix? i do have 2 o2 sensors in bank 1 and 2
that are bad

Change the spark plugs, bosch aren’t great for European cars. Get ngk plugs
they are expensive but worth it.

Omer Bin Sohail says:

through engine ,i m in saudi arabia and it will cost me alot if i change
engine here.so what should i do

try terraclean,it cleans everything

tcreimers says:

The only time my 1999.5 A4 2.8 Quattro behaved like this… it was the
throttle body that was sticking. It needed a good cleaning so that it would
operate properly. Before the cleaning the car was stalling and stuttering
on acceleration… after cleaning no problems!

turbo5thgenprelude says:

cats clogged maybe

sam davies says:

the neighbors must luv that exhaust note

Xtremeskippers says:

replace the ignition wires, not the spark plugs

vchep chep says:

and that will take car out of “safemode” worked for me

GallowayChicago says:

I don’t use single prong plugs anymore. I only use multi (2 or more) prong
platinums. They have a longer service life too. Win Win
