So what causes the bumping sound when shifting. If motor mounts and struts are good.

I have the same car, it vibrates when I apply throttle. Also, when shifting from park to drive the car jerks.
If your mounts are bad the car will vibrat more. Whether the mounts are good or bad the engine will still shake normally. The mounts reduce the shaking for people sitting in the car.
