Hey, I am going to attempt to install a radio in my 2001 Corolla. My car
did not have a radio when I purchased it, so I have to get the radio
brackets from a used parts place or from Toyota. Now, I’m also realizing
that I don’t have a factory installed wiring harness in the car, there are
just a group of bundled wires with scotch tape at the ends. What should I
do? Take it to a professional? Or can I buy an additional wiring harness
that connects to those wires?

P.S. I’ve already purchased a wiring harness, ties, and krimp caps. And I
had a kit, but I realized I didn’t need it.

Murphy’s Law:
you wire everything up, zip tie it all, then tape it, without “TESTING” it..

…Somethings bound to not work, my advice is to use little plugs instead
of butt connectors, that way if you get a wire wrong you can simply unplug
it and plug it into the correct wire. Plugs cost the same or less than butt
connectors too…

The thing is I’m installing a new stereo in my car, I had done a previous
one to the car, but it was stolen and they cut behind the harness I used on
my car. Should I have another installed just connect and crimp the wires
from my car itself?

Rick Bryan says:

I like the video but please consider showing a new head unit install on an
older model vehicle where there is no existing OEM wiring harness and all
you’ve got are a tangle of wires inside the console. How does a DIY
installer figure out which wire in the car operates the dimmer feature, for
example. If you have time, please.
