First Person Troller says:

You seriously are the man, thank you so much, i never knew a radiator cap
had so many functions, now i have a good idea to why my car is over
heating.

EG6_ANDREW says:

To eric or anyone else who might have an idea id really appreciate any
help.. i have a 92 civic, i can fill the radiator up full and itl stay full
as long as it sits there, but if i even take it around the block it starts
to heat up quick,. so i let it cool down and check the fluid and its
actually missing some, yet i cant find ANY leaks and every hose is clamped
as well as i can see.. any ideas?

Duh Enlightened One says:

Besides leaves and bags blocking air flow, you must also look for dead
pedestrians that were run over because their clothes sometimes blocks the
air flow. Also if you are carrying excess dead hitchhiker bodies in the
trunk, that could make the car overheat. The dead bodies can be located in
other places besides the trunk, but they are usually forgotten about when
you put them in the trunk. My advice is to tint your windows and put them
in the back seat.

Tony Garza says:

You had ur picture or I guess your promoting a car wax that did’nt do too
good! It was price reduced from regular price to 2 bucks at the Dollar
General. Is it any good, or did they put your name and face on it for the
money? Thanks for the video.

Kimberly Sertzel says:

here’s a puzzler. My car is running on the hot side of 200. About 210,
make a right turn it shoots to 260 and back to 200 after the turn. Drive
with the heat on and it is steady just slightly below 200. Turn left with
the heat on and temp drops to 0 and takes a minute to recover to 200.
Please help, so frustrated!!!!

Tim Kalla says:

Hi Eric , is it good idea to run car without thermostat ?

jordan lowes says:

how can you check if the water pump is bad ?

pgrutube says:

Why was nothing said about the WATER PUMP?? I’ve heard if it’s leaking then
it’s bad, but can it somehow be “bad” ie no water flow, without any outward
signs other than overheating?? My 2000 is overheating. Plenty of good
coolant, clear radiator, just changed the thermostat, but still overheats
quickly, <5 mins when upto speed. How do you check if it's the water pump,
without changing it? (It's hard to do and expensive, unlike the
thermostat.)

robinater says:

You Rock Eric Thanks I have a 93 Honda Accord and I think its the fan
because when I am in idle the temp goes up when I start to go the temp
goes down..but I will go thru those steps you mentioned.

ReCkLeSsErr0r says:

i just bought a cheap 1997 sunfire for 100 dollars, but i was told the
coolant valve for the engine isn’t working. Is this expensive to fix?

ALEXANDER Sherman says:

I have a 2004 Honda Civic 1.7 I change radiator and thermostat the fans
work I’ve even change the water pump and man it still goes up it doesn’t
need a head job (no white smoke and no symptoms involving that) I’m just
baffled… I live in a tropical climate (sun shines all day) I don’t know
what else to do……. last option is to rod out the new radiator.

Piz Garcia says:

I have an issue with my car. I dont know much about cars first of all but
love to learn. My brother has been helping me try to figure my issue out.
My 2002 pontiac grand am is over heating. I cant drive the car too far
without it getting too hot. I have replaced the cooling sensor. One fan
doesnt turn on. It does work when its connected to this thing my brother
has (again i know nothing about cars so I dont know the name of the thing
he connects it to). I sound like an idiot i know but I really want to
figure this out before i decide to give up on the car and sell it. This
problem started after my brother replaced the starter on it. Somebody help
please.

Robert Fisch says:

Thank you Eric ! Something else you can look at is a clogged Catalytic
converter If they get clogged the engine will run hot

DanielRichards644 says:

one thing not mentioned is to check for CLOGS, if someone mixed to types of
coolant they could gel up and clog the system, or if the system is just
horribly UN-maintained you could have a build up of sludge, in GM cars we
call it Dex-Sludge and a gunked up cooling system can have reduced
efficiency. that one you replaced in the video looked pretty gunked up.

Beach Waves says:

Thank you <3

Wargreymon559 says:

I have 95 Honda accord and it’s been heating up lately.I know it’s not the
radiator cuz I just changed it last year.It did use to leak but I used some
coolant sealer I dont know if maybe the problem?

Dan Janosko says:

GARY I JUST REPLACED MY HEATER CORE ON MY PONTIAC GRANDAM IT GOT BUSTED
PIPES ON IT I HIT A GROUNDHOG ONE DAY AND BROKE THEM.ANY WAY I DID;NT
REPLACE IT RIGHT AWAY ABOUT FOR MONTHS LATER IT BEGAN HEATING UP.I JUNCTION
THE TWO HOSES TOGETHER THAT HOOKED TOO MY HEATER CORE AND PUT WATER IN IT
THATS WHEN I NOTICED IT HEATING UP I THOUGHT I HAD A BLOWEN HEADGASKET
BECAUSE I SEEN ALL THIS COOLANT LEAKING OUT OF THE TOP OFF THE HEAD DID NOT
HAD SEEN ANY ANTIFEEZE IN MY OIL.BUT WHEN I REPLACED THE HEATER CORE I SEEN
NO MORE LEAKS OR ANY OVER HEATING CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT?

cody bradley says:

Maybe I can get some help. 1999 caddy eldorado engine overheats radiator
dead cold fan doesn’t come on and says check coolant level thinking bad
thermostat

jorge daz says:

Hi Eric I have a 93 bmw the over heats I have replaced everything water

thermostat off just to see and if get on traffic it still over heats even
with no thermostat so I hope you can help me out with it thanks.

Alfredo Gomez says:

i need ur help i have a 1995 civic that been giving me headaches due to it
overheating i changed the headgasket,water pump,thermostat,doesnt loose
coolant both hose on the radiator have too much pressure like if water isnt
flowwing

1supamonsta says:

Great video Eric thanks for all that usefull information. I have a
problem with my 2001 Accord 4cyl. Its overheating. no leaks, good
thermostat. both fans work when i turn on the AC, but when the AC is
off the radiator fan doesn´t turn on leting the temperature rise all the
way. if the fuse and relay are good what should I check next? Thank you.

2ub40 says:

hey my 1981 Tercel is overheating on the fwy at top speeds! I was hearing a
lot of coolant movement on the reservoir! could that be the radiator?

opie7afe says:

one thing i do know is there is another reason why you dont use only water
in a radiator, once the water gets hot, can turn to steam, steam gets much
hotter than water so it will basically eat out the radiator from the
inside. mainly an issue in cars with the plastic tanks… usually the
inside of the area that has cracked is white as well.

William Jefferson says:

I have a 97 ford thunderbird that started overheating. First noticed after
I took blower motor out of the housing to replace it. Found the blower was
good. But the blower wasn’t coming on when I turned the switch. Also, no
oil in engine because of o ring leak but doing an oil change soon.
Reservoir leaks from cap after cars been running hot. I mixed my own
antifreeze because of the colder climate but now in warmer weather. All
fuses are good. Resisistor to blower motor seems to not be putting out any
volts. I will try replacing it for the blower but my overheating problem is
my only concern. I will be changing the thermostat also. Any help would be
appreciated if I missed any thing.

MrPew17 says:

ETCG is 100 percent spot on with the radiator cap. My 93 olds cutlass’
coolant temp would fluctuate quite a bit from 180ish all the way to 240 and
i thought it could be low on coolant, the thermostat was bad. Nope,
replaced the cap and the cap on the expansion tank and now the the temp
never fluctuates more than ten or so degrees.

Goman patel says:

Thank you very this video very help full

Seth drown says:

ive changed the thermostat the radiator a few hoses and also bleed the air

Kimberly Sertzel says:

Thought I would share what we have done so far. Diagnostic on electrical is
fine, replaced temperature sensor, new connections to battery (needed this
– corrosion), next is the dash and steering column. I have so many people
perplexed with this. I will let everyone know exactly what we find, if we
ever do. :)

jynclr says:

My Miata is in the shop for a blown gasket due to the engine over heating.
🙁 I wish I had known about the “heater” tip. It’s getting a new engine
now. Thanks for the video!

Ronald van Kemenade says:

Multiple causes .. good one. Learns me to diagnose properly, and not limit
myself to just fixing the first defect spotted. Thanks Eric.

Psych0sERuM . says:

Thanks man. I feel like I can become a mechanic after all that info.

David Roope says:

Eric, Thanks for your info, I have a 01 GMC Jimmy that my wife drives and
first the radiator cracked so I replaced it and the cap, and drove it for a
couple of days and it did fine, then my wife started driving it again and
the top hose blew off, I fixed it and put a good screw clamp on both hoses,
a few days later the bottom one blew off, I put a new thermostat in it and
it was the origional water pump so I put a new one on it, but a few days
later the top hose blew off again, I then put a fan clutch in it and drove
it myself for 3 days, a few days later my wife was driving it and the top
hose blew off again, I do not see any bubbling in the radiator or steam
coming from the exhaust, what the heck is going on,
Thanks,
Dave

I have a 1996 Honda civic 4 cyl. and replaced the fan censor and when I run
the a/c for a while the cars needle starts to go up when im at a stop then
when I drive it goes down a lil. what can be the problem.

Nathan Clevenger says:

Fuck ya Eric thank you! Checked my hoses and found out the bottom hose was
cold and the top one was f’n hot after two hours of sitting from driving.

pavel1809 says:

hey Eric a Have a Honda civic 2002 EX and is Overheat i have to put water
on the radiator every 3 days i ready change the water pump I need you
help i can’t not find the leak

B Ann says:

About H2o pumps radiators & fans because most people are capable enough to
have already checked the thermostat and coolant level .

I must add, if you are not capable then perhaps you should consider not
attempting to fix your own car because you can get hurt , SERIOUSLY HURT !
Burned by boiling coolant or have a belt take your finger off or get your
hair stuck in a moving part or burned electrically , yes even with only 12
volts .
I have seen all of these things & more happen .
Oh & GOOD jack stands & wheel blocks are mandatory !
& Never get under anything that can fall & crush you , NEVER !

Many of today’s cars have plastic impellers on the H2o pump & they simply
become loose and stop turning under a load .
Volkswagen bug/beetle H2o cooled are notorious for this loose impeller
overheating problem as are many others.
Radiators become plugged on the inside and I mean plugged .
Copper & brass rads that appear clean can be a victim of ‘solder bloom’
which can plug a rad solid .
Aluminum rads also plug from contaminants & cooling system debris & their
plastic tanks are famous for cracking and leaking . .
If your rad fan does not work your car can possibly overheat even while
moving .
A good sign of a rad fan not working is reduced cold AC in traffic or slow
speed .
FYI the thermostat on a GM Quad 4 is between the motor & transmission
underneath the car so even a simple thermostat change can become a
nightmare for a novice .
So please be careful because your safety is not worth saving any amount of
money .

Silentunion08 says:

I never had this problem before! It all started after I had my transmission
rebuilt. Anyone know if they screwed up? They probably wont even look at it
or take responsibility for it.

ryan wirling says:

Hey Eric my friend has a ford he has a closed circuit raidator and the any
freeze is gone so I was wondering when I do a pressure test where wold it
come out the stat or the water pump or the heater core he says he is not
blowing white smoke what do u think it is

Matt Smith says:

i have a 2000 ford focus and it is overheating while in idle. i have
checked the cooling fans and they seem to cut on when the engine runs after
a while. Sometimes, my temperature gauge will jump to HOT immediately when
i start the car. i have noticed my coolant was low and thought that was the
problem but my car is still overheating. anyone have any ideas?

Imtiaz Lalani says:

Hey Eric your video was indeed helpful but my car’s problem is a bit
confusing.
When, for the first time, it gets overheated the mechanic changed the
automatic switch of my fan but the problem still remains there. My car’s
fan works, automatically, fine for about 4-5 kms, about 25-30 minutes and
then the car’s fan stop working on automatic and car starts heating. I then
have to unplug the the automatic switch so that fan can work manually i.e
it then works during the whole time car is switched on. The mechanic is
saying that it could be a thermostat malfunctioning but he is not confirmed.
What you suggest to do?
